Clearly you have been watching different games, too many city fans mistake effort for ability Vardy has tons of ability and effort. The suggestion that Vardy has coasted is lamentable at best. The difference is when he lines up with Shinji he can press the play because he knows Shinji will hunt the ball with him.

At the beginning of the season he was closing the play then looking over his shoulder and looking at a 10-20m gap direct to his defence. He obviously realised very quickly he was wasting his time and energy closing players down. You will notice Shakey has virtually said the same thing hence we have gone back to how we set up last season.

Shinji has played in 34 games this season only 5 behind last season with a few games still left. You make it sound like Vardy and Shinji javen't been on the pitch together.

I was actually being sarcastic, and having a bit of a dig at those who reckon his upturn was purely down to effort, but never mind.

The desperate will to find any tactical explanation - however far-fetched - to avoid calling Vardy a useless bugger for most part of the season is certainly interesting. Maybe it's because we are so dependent on him that facing the fact that he's capable of being utterly shit would be too painful.

True. When he's good we're good but when he's shit... And we're not sitting on 36 points because we've been good very often this year. It really wouldn't have taken great performances to be in the mix for European places this season. Even the 3rd place team haven't been that good.

This is bizzare. He's shown nothing to merit this in any way shape or form. Vardy bagged 24 PL goals last season and a record scoring run and has hit 10 this season so far with 4 assists not to mention CL goals but yeah, Slimani is much better.

Your negativity towards Vardy is now bordering on the ridiculous. I can only assume it is because of this insistance that he is/was lazy or lacked any effort, both of which are more than possibly fabricated scenarios. Indeed, several players and staff have spoken in the media about the tactical changes which allow Vardy to push much higher and chase down more 'lost causes' since CR's departure. It is no coincidence then that he now looks every bit as effective now as he did last season (for the most part at least!).

I am critical of Slimani yes, but not because I think he is completely useless, more because I really don't see the hype about him. I don't attach a particular expectation to a price tag so it isn't that, it's simply that he hasn't been any better than anyone else at all so far (well, perhaps Musa). He has shown himself to be useful, nothing more, nothing less. He's so clumsy with the ball at his feet it's untrue. I'd love to be proven wrong I really would but leaving out Okazaki or Vardy for Slimani would be managerial madness at the moment.

You did read my posts in full and see that I'm talking about the striking positions for next year and the future didn't you? I wouldn't drop Vardy "at the moment", I'd have dropped him when he was playing shit and I just don't see him as the best long term option for styling the team around.

So they have both started those 34 games together? Vardy is a very underrated player by most of the media and some on here, stating he is a one trick pony, he has great control, pace and movement if he had been at a different club say Liverpool or Tottenham, he would be applauded every week and the club would have been praised for making a brave step and signing him from the non league set up.

The crux is, would you play Vardy with Slimmani or Shinji?

Vardy has pace, acceleration and movement (I think mostly he has poor control but maybe that's just me), he's a good player if he's on form and the team is built around his game. He has been the talk of the world for the last 2 years and ranked in the top 15 (or was it 30) in the world. I don't think you can say he is under-rated. I think he's over-rated but excellent in a certain system. He has been embarrassingly bad for most of this year and he rarely looks good for England. If a team does its homework they know how to stop him - firstly defend deep. Spurs would never sign him, he doesn't have the skill or variety that Kane has. Liverpool - I don't know - it's not the attack they have a problem with. Next year his pace and acceleration will be, if anything, worse. The year after worse again. I'd build next years team around Slimani with Albrighton banging in the crosses and Gray/Mahrez (if we can hold onto him) making jinky runs.

Interesting the slaughtering of Vardy, when others are far more to blame for our early season disasters

Especially so when you consider that Mahrez has played like a complete and utter cock all season long

I haven't seen any of that.

Plus BN, SF and myself have critisized Vardy AND Mahrez all season and asked that they be dropped - I seem to remember you repeatedly claiming they were absolute shit earlier in the season too.

We have replacements for both Vardy and Mahrez (and they are paid more than any other player and are supposedly top 15/30 in the world). The problem with our underperforming defenders was that we didn't have replacements available - though Fuchs should have been dropped for Chilwell. Amartey is not a RB, he's a good midfielder and seemed to have got one of the spots before he went AFCON and since then Ndidi and Drinkwater have the spots - though I'd argue that Ndidi and Amartey should be the central midfielders.

Still why should I be surprised that you're "hyperboling"?

Yes, like the rest of the team, he's been shit. But lack of effort? Not so sure about that.

He was England's top scorer last year, and scored against Germany, Spain and the Netherlands etc in a team that wasn't set up to play to his strengths.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Agreed. At least Vardy and the rest have picked it up in recent weeks.

I would not be sad to see Mahrez sold in the summer.

I think that was due to the discussion being about our strikers. I've given up on Mahrez. Seems like he has left the club mentally and a move would be best for all involved.

I think I said he doesn't look good for England. I'll stick by that, that's not the same as he isn't scoring.

Bloody hell!!!!!! Selling one of the world's best players!!!!!!!! It's the tactical modifications that are shit OMFG!!!!!!!

Vardy swap for Keane.

Mahrez swap for Griezmann.

Vardy's pace will wane however he will still be quicker than most, Gray is a long way off and consistently fails to deliver with crosses which in turn makes Slimanni a spare part. Sides do defend deep but still come unstuck that has been proven since Shakey has taken control of the reigns, I remember when Kane was with us and I have to say he was uninspiring, probably down to the formation we were playing. With regards to England Vardy has performed well and most importantly it what he does off the ball!
