It should definitely have been a red, but can understand why the ref made the mistake. It was a disappointing decision, but not a shocking one.

I thought our performance was okay, not impressive, but not embarrassing either.

I have to say I love Iborra, he looks the calmest most composed player on the pitch, I think we should be encouraging him to get higher up the pitch as he tried to do against Man City, although perhaps this wasn't the best game for it.

Man City are awesome, make no mistake we were tough opposition for them, but they have an answer for everything.

And that isn't one, in my opinion. I wouldn't have given it, but then I have zero training as a referee so I wouldn't have been asked to.
It is a red card because it was deliberate and malicious foul play he was no where near the ball and took vardy out, stones being near the area of the ball has no bearing on the decision

I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the laws of the game about "deliberate and malicious foul play" being a red card offence. It should have been a red card because the foul prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity. If Vardy had been running in the opposite direction it would have been a yellow card. Stone's position would have had a bearing on it if he'd been in a position to stop Vardy. But he wasn't.

Quite well summed up by Dermot Gallagher.

«Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I think the difficulty here for the referee is that he is behind the incident. What he doesn't see is that Vardy is in control of the ball. When he looks up after the foul, he sees that John Stones has come across.»

"The whole situation has changed. He can't snap-photograph it in his mind like we can. If you see if forensically, it's a red card. if you see it as a referee, he is deceived because of the ball going away."

What a load of bollocks. He doesn't need to look up after the foul at all. That is an excuse for a lack of awareness, if anything, but not a justification of not sending him off..

I've just had a look on the Sky Sports website and the wording is different to that and backs up what I was saying. On there it says - "The difficulty for the referee is that he's square on" which isn't true. He's directly behind it and doesn't need to look up at all.

Having seen it again, it's definitely a red.

Yes I can see the ref's logic in not giving it - he thought Stones was covering - but his logic is wrong because Vardy was through.

As soon as the whistle went though I said the ref would bottle it - if that had been 20 mins it, he would've sent him off most likely. But 2 mins into the game, he bottled it.

Don't really understand the comments about Albrighton playing a no.10 role? That's not what I saw.

I saw it as Albrighton on the right (most of the time) of a midfield three, with Ndidi in the middle and Iborra the other side. If anything, Iborra was usually the most advanced of the 3 to try and win headers and use his strength to send it on to the attackers.

I thought Albrighton actually did alright there - he had a very tough job of trying to help mark Silva and De Bruyne but did alright for the first half.

His performance actually went downhill when he got moved to his normal right wing position when Mahrez went to play behind Vardy!

Putting my sensible head on....

  1. It was a red card...
  2. We played well
  3. we were never going to win that game
  4. the selection was odd but it worked well. I mean most teams that have come up against mancity have taken a beating this year
  5. If we play like that against teams outside of the top 8 we'll be looking at picking up a significant amount of wins

Summed up perfectly.

I was always told not to make assumptions about certain players being faster or more able to get a shot off. I suppose if refs did, this would only compound bias towards big clubs and well known players

In the paper today Mark Clattenburg says the referee should have taken into account Vardy’s pace - which I disagree with for the same point you make. It’s hardly as if the refs will be able to have full knowledge about Jack from the reserves’ ability and pace.

Having just the goals again, can't understand why Fuchs just didn' step up a couple of paces, rather than try dangling a leg,
Played them onside 2 easily

It's easy, he's complete shite.
