2 very different halves of football, but both equally pleasing, the first half was exceptional with some really vibrant attacking play, the second although nowhere near as fluent, our game management very effective and we closed the game out relatively comfortably.

Puel has done brilliantly in his first game, great start.

Fuchs, yes - it was staring at me today like it's not before. We maybe need a new left back, he's approaching his expiry date. And I'm not yet convinced Chilwell is a full back either; too rash, needs to calm down. Maybe we ought give Amartey a run there... or up front. The poor bloke is destined to be out utility player.

Parked the bus in the 2nd half. Kasper didn’t have to make a save.

Under te past few managers we've all been crowing about Fuchs or Chilwell, Mahrez or Gray. Puel comes in and says 'why not all four?' A simple change and an example of the fresh perspective we needed and why Shakespeare was the wrong choice in the first place. First half we were great in attack but I thought really bad in defence, back four especially. Everton should have had a penalty and we can count ourselves very fortunate to have a clean sheet at half time. Second half Everton took control of possession but struggled to break us down. MOM Gray. Some great stuff from him today.

Parked the bus in the 2nd half. Kasper didn’t have to make a save.

Not so much parked as not allowed out of the garage would have been my interpretation, but I can see the perspective; we did sit back. But I certainly agree with the 2nd sentence.

Great first half - important 3 points. I thought Morgan was a goner after the first few games this season but after the last few, he has come back to form and been immense. The first goal was classic old ( 2016) Leicester - a thing of beauty.
As has been said, Fuchs, Chillwell and Maguire made mistakes that could have cost us against a better team, but I feel the whole team put in a lot of effort - and the vociferous support from the fans was great to hear.
Now 11th in the table - perhaps my prediction of 8th might still come to pass!

Ooh just seen that tackle from Fuchs on SSN

Clear penalty

Great game management in the second half, and I’m not surprised to see the tiredness and fatigue slip in during the last 15 mins considering the intensity we played in the first half.

The link up play between Gray and Mahrez was superb in the first half. On the rare occasion they’ve played together in the past they’ve been on opposite sides of the pitch, so we’ve never really seen that link up play. Credit to Puel for that. Mahrez has really started looking like the 15/16 Mahrez over the past couple of weeks.

As well as Gray and Mahrez, I thought Morgan and Simpson were sublime.

Onwards and upwards.

I thought Maguire was perfectly adept in both his positioning and interceptions. He made a couple of good tackles and did pretty well with the ball at his feet. It was a good performance - the type that he has been praised for from most quarters since the beginning of the season.

I too thought he was his usual best today.

Morgan gave a perfect performance too. I love Huth but he will struggle to get back in if this continues.

As for our wingers, we have been crying out for Mahrez and Gray to both start for ages, and I thought Albrighton did well when he came on. And Chilwell showed us what we already knew - he is our diamond in the pack.

Tactical changes here and there and all of a sudden we show what a strong squad we have with strength in depth of which the likes of Everton would love to have.

I'm delighted! :)

Very good first half (mainly). Gray was terrific as was Mahrez.

Vardy was great in my opinion, he worked hard and on another day he would have scored two and made two.

Morgan was immense.

Great game management from CP.

Fuchs is finished, two disgraceful performances in two games.

He's already in the MLS in his head.

He should take a look at Morgan for some inspiration, a top quality performance from a true professional, well done Wesley.

I am genuinely hopeful of the possibilities when the manager gets his hands on Silva and Iborra. We still need a 3 IMO but the quality on the ball will be building.

The new manager is a manager, that in itself is an improvement.

Also, nice one Gray for sticking it to those in the match thread who thought he shouldn't be playing. I look forward to the lad being given an actual opportunity and not 10 minutes here and there

Completely caught Everton cold today, you could tell they were bricking it in those first 20 minutes. Very well played by Puel today, he got the best half of football we've played since March out of the players.

Vardy, Mahrez and Gray caused absolute havoc, I know a lot of us have wanted to see that combination for a while now and it was a great time deploy it against a truly shit Everton side.

Most comments have concentrated on activities on the pitch but I was diverted by seeing David Unsworth in the managers role for Everton. He was the subject of some ridicule from Aston Villa fans in the 1990s. To be fair we have only Villa manager John Gregory's side of the story.

Aston Villa bought him from West Ham. Unfortunately before he signed he failed to get permission from Mrs Unsworth. . In short according to John Gregory David Unsworth was told by his wife to move to a Lancashire club club where he would not be late getting home from training.

Unsworth joined Villa in preseason and left them for Everton still in preseason. John Gregory who was not known as "a new man" made it clear he was not impressed by either David Unsworth or Mrs Unsworth.

It was lovely to see two wingers playing on their natural side. I’ve never understood the craze of having players always cutting back inside before they cross he ball.

Reflecting on that performance, I'm very happy. We showed an ambitious spirit and a lot of creative talent. Very pleased that early signs suggest Puel is willing to put that talent to good use.

When you compare our attacking options to the other squads in the premier league we look strong.

I was particularly interested to see the players attitudes. The team looked determined, and organised too which suggests the players will get on board with Puel's ideas.

Only Chilwell and Fuchs left their place in doubt IMO, since presumably at least one of them has to play I would pick Chilwell with Albrighton coming in.

Positive stuff.

Amazing what the eye of a shrewd new manager could see in terms of imaginative use of resources and first half tactics.

Owners have done well.

Sad that Shakespeare now damaged by being given a role that wasn't right for him.

I promise my next post will actually be relevant but cannot resist this,

Was Hitler an Everton supporter.?
Did the Liverpool Echo have the headline "Liverpool Man Takes Over Germany"

It is a fact that Hitler's half-brother married an Irish woman called Bridget Dowling just before the First World War and they settled in Liverpool.

Bridget Dowling claimed that Adolf Hitler stayed in Liverpool with the couple for a time in 1913. Accounts of Hitler's life in 1913 are vague but we know he was anxious to avoid conscription to the Habsburg army,

When a historian called David Gardner was researching Hitler's family he was sent a letter from Liverpool. The letter said that his father used to go with Hitler to watch Everton. There is no further evidence for this and no confirmation from Bridget Dowling.

Alois and Bridget had a son called William. They emigrated to America. William Hitler was very much against Uncle Adolf and joined the American army in the second World War.

There is a story that in January 1933 the Liverpool Echo had the headline "Liverpool Man Takes Over Germany" I wish it was true but it is just an urban myth. There was no such headline.
