Good stuff.

Made changes, rested key players, got a goal for Nacho, first goal for Mahrez Mk. II, clean sheet in first appearance for Ward, 4 goals and through to the next round.

Can't ask for much more than that.

Exceptional finishes from Fuchs and Ghezzal. Nice calm touch by Iheanacho for his as well.

Shame it's in such meaningless dross as this competition has been made. Still, match practice is match practice.

another win under the belt.
some great goals.
game time for Ghezzal, Evans, Okazaki, Fuchs, Ward, Silva, Iborra and Benkovic...
now to see Amartey against Mane and Robertson down Liverpool's left.....eek.

Utterly worthless competition and the result will ultimately mean nothing to anyone on either side. All the same, a good way for Puel to have a look at some fringe players. I'd be interested to know what anyone feels they've learned from tonight other than Ian Stringer wants to shag Vicente Iborra.

I would

Sounded easy, there were 1 or 2 great chances before we went 2-0 up.

I know we can only beat what’s in front of us, but we were against a League One reserve team.

This competition is an absolute embarrassment when a League One team plays away from home to a Premier League team, big day out, and makes more changes than the Premier League team.

Why is everyone treating this competition like it's a piece of shit? It's one of only two domestic cups we get to participate in so for me it's just as important as the FA cup.

Genuine question, is it because it's called the Carabao cup? I'd love us to win this again..it's been 18 years!

In fairness, it is a dogshit tournament. It’s a de facto reserve cup that nobody actually wants to be in.

The reason nobody gives a shit is because the prize for winning it is £100,000 (for comparison, the FA Cup winners get a payment of £3.6m in addition to the almost £3.2m for winning all the previous rounds; the winners of the Welsh Cup get £180,000) and a place in the Europa League, which even fewer people give a shit about.

Clubs are required to charge a minimum price but have no incentive to play a strong team (if anything, a disincentive – who wants to risk their top stars in a game worth literally **** all?), resulting in virtually empty stadia.

The EFL Cup is completely worthless to absolutely everyone involved. The only thing more pointless in English football is the EFL Trophy. Both of these joke competitions need to be dumped and either replaced with something meaningful or, better, just forgotten about altogether.

I wasn't saying anything like that in 1997 or 2000, and would be perfectly happy if this cup gives us another trip into Europe

So we can play the fourth-best team in Austria or the Israeli cup winners in July? I’d prefer the team to be preparing for the next Premier League season, honestly. I know it’s not popular to say we shouldn’t be winning things, but that’s the reality of this tournament. It’s crap and no good comes of winning it.

Why do people uniquely bring up the early rounds of this competition? I've never heard of anyone dismiss the FA Cup on the grounds that the eventual winner usually has to knock out a team from the lower leagues before getting to the final.
Regular european football, all be it at the junior level, was pretty important to the growth of Spurs as a club not to mention the glory it has brought to clubs like Sevilla. If we were to feature in next season's Uefa Cup (or whatever it's called these days), we'd be serious contenders. I take that as a sign of our development as a club, and welcome it.

Winning the fa cup gets you into the first round proper of the Europa league, league cup gets you what Burnley are dealing with

Did I? I was talking about the competition as a whole. Winning it brings in almost nothing in terms of prize money and effectively shortens our following pre-season by two weeks. If we won the FA Cup we would enter the Europa League at the group stage and wouldn’t have to play until late September — with considerably more money in the bank.
