Is that the guy who had something like 200 managerial jobs in a year on average because he was shit at it but could obviously write a top notch CV?

To answer your question - no, and yes. He didn't have loads of jobs, just linked constantly for seemingly no reason. Moved a couple of times and then settled at Oxford. CV was cracking but obviously had no idea what kind of tree he would be.

He does look similar. I googled it and found feck all to confirm he's related, which is odd if it's his da. I did find some discussion on how Michael Appleton doesn't look like he should have muscles but does. Thought it was quite ture, bit like how Daniel Craig's head makes him look like he's in front of ones of those comedy seaside boards where you put your head through or a reversed Disneyland Mickey Mouse with a big body and small comedy head.

    That's probably 80% sure.

He (Michael) was born in Manchester shortly after Colin Appleton was re-appointed as manager at Scarborough, his home-town. I am sure they share a surname and little else.

Apart from a C, an I and an L in their first names, that was my conclusion too.
