Welcome to the new Talking Balls forum.

If you have comments or any problems using the new version of the site, please let us know in this thread.

I am aware that it doesn't have all the features of the old site at the moment, I will be adding things over the coming days and weeks.

I have spotted one problem so far, but I don't expect many people will be affected by it.
Using Chrome and a plugin that disables Flash, when you try to create a new thread, it thinks you're trying to upload a file. Apparently it's a bug in the browser plugin, and not a fault with the site.

You may notice that it's saying posts are unread when you've read them on the old site. This is to do with the way Cookies are used to identify you. If you want to mark everything as being read you can do so using the link at the top of the page.

If you're wondering what a 'conversation' is, it's what was called a private message on the old site.

No need to have worried about logging in with the new site. I'm not sure what the process was but my username and password (in the form of blobs) were already there in the appropriate palces on the new site's log-in page and all I had to do was submit them.

Just for your info Jeff - it doesn't seem to be picking up what is and isn't an unread post. In other words, the 'new posts' function doesn't work and neither does the ability to go to the first unread post.

I'm sure you know this already, but it didn't know if you were looking for us to point out things like this.

For the record, I think the new forum looks really good. Very impressed so far.

Post #2 in this thread applies.

Which leads me ask why posts are no longer numbered?

I've marked all forums as read and now it's telling me that there are no new posts, so maybe that function does work? I'll wait until more people are awake and posting to look more. Maybe it was just that some of the last posts in the old forum weren't marked as read by me, when the data was switched to the new forum.

Cheers Boc, it's just that when I clicked to go to the first unread post (in another thread), it took me to a post halfway through it. So it was acknowledging that I'd read some of it, but not all of it. This is probably me just jumping the gun, though.

It does seem to work fine as soon as it hits the cookies in this new version of the forum.

This all looks very good. I'm now viewing on Chrome on my phone and it's really good.

That would cause problems for those of us who clear cookies regularly surely? Doesn't the site itself keep a record of what is read and unread to allow for access via different machines?

Just clicked on the 'my account' bit and got "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

It does in fact look as though the record is kept by the site rather than by the machine. My phone tells me I have no new posts even though I have read none via that medium.

Can't see an option to reply quoting multiple threads.

It's not showing our total number of posts. Will this be carried forward or has that gone forever ?

Just click the reply button on each post you want to quote. Just tried it on my phone and it only worked when both posts are on the same page.
