Which is why the assist stats are a nonsense.

Couldn't agree more.

An entertaining game. 4.30 am KO here, so fell asleep at 1-1 only to wake right at the end. I then watched it all again on repeat. I thought we'd thrown it away and they then had a very good chance at 2-2. Really pleasing to go somewhere like Newcastle and nick it at the end.

Shinji had the last touch before the scorer. So if anyone gets the assist, it's him.
I was thinking after the game I'd got a few points in my Fantasy team with Shinji rather than 1 point for coming on as sub but no, just the point and nothing for Vardy either.
Pity he was there tbh as I was quids in then, points wise, as I'm sure Shinji would have scored with Vardy the assist

Was nice to piss on their 25 year party. That third was a thing of beauty, poor Shinji didn't look too happy though.

Shinji gets mullered on the half way line before the goal but he just gets up and starts the move.

I ****ing love his commitment, a black and white picture of him with that bandage would be iconic in 20 years time, the bloke is a cult hero.

So refreshing and a change that our manager understands enough about his players to bring on the right substitutes. Central defenders look likely to concede a goal at every set piece but the team is showing signs of 2015/ 16 mental attitude. Shame we couldn't have started the season with Puel.

shinji making a habit of being involved in bizarre 3rd goals at St James park

He has no assists this season and in my opinion he isn't doing anywhere near enough in games to justify his constant untouchable status.

Constantly offside despite being the fastest man on the pitch is also a bit annoying.

The whole team only had two offsides in the whole game. What does 'constantly offside' mean?

This has got to be the most negative thread I've seen in ages about a game we won. That's 3 wins n a row and we've lost 1 in the last 11 in all competitions, which was against Man City.

I thought we were pretty good in the 1st half. Kept possession well, won it back comfortably when we lost it and bossed the game, and we did it against a desperate team away from home. The 2nd half was scrappy, but we always looked like we could and would win it. I don't know what game others were watching,

As for the mistakes, especially the passing in our own half, yes they were pretty bad, but we're transitioning from a team that was happy with 30% possession and quick counters to one that plays a bit more like a team that actually wants the ball. Since 2015/2016 every other team in the league is now 10 - 20% better than they were then and relying solely on counter-attacking style of play hasn't worked for us since August 2016. Puel's passing game isn't 'boring', I actually prefer to see us have the ball for more than 9 minutes per game.

Palace are next - they're even worse than Newcastle. If we beat them 1-0, 3-2 or 7-6, I'll be happy, as long as we continue to improve. there is nothing wrong with winning by a single goal.

It was only on the replay you could see that the 'Shinji' shot was actually Perez.

Explains why he wasn't initially jumping around so much after it went in. That and the blinding headache from a huge gash on his head! Truly the stuff of heroes!

Shinji the Kamakazi (according to Puel).

I prefer the 'Shinji, the 8th Samurai' to 'Shinji the Kamakazi', as the former at holds out the prospect that he might survive and do battle for us again on another day!

Thanks to a resurgence under Puel and heroics from Shinji and others, we find ourselves with just an 8 points difference from claiming 4th place.

If we can keep the form of the last 3 games, I am confident we can haul back that difference over 22 games, especially if we can replicate our Away form at Home.

When we can let Silva out of the cupboard in 4 weeks time, and if Puel can persuade Mahrez, (and his greedy agent), to stay until June, we could become awesome in the New Year!

I really just want us to be up there and in the hunt for European football.

I like what I am seeing but there is obviously room for improvement.
Number 1 - defending set pieces.
Number 2 - silly misplaced passes.
Number 3 - not leaving Vardy so isolated.
Number 4 - our corners.

I expect a defeat at Southampton but a top half of the table finish.

There's only one team ahead of us I can see us realistically finishing above, and that's Burnley - and they're playing a blinder. Having said that, I don't see anyone below us being better and being able to catch us, so it's really 7th or 8th for me.

Just heard that City attempted 562 passes against Newcastle and completed 80% of them.

This is the highest total for City since Opta started counting such things in 2003.

So, the most passes we've ever attempted since Opta stats began.

People still think we aren't changing style and it's just about the formation and going direct on the counter?
