Liverpool manage to be the first team to beat Man City...then follow up by losing at Swansea. Cheered up my evening no end that has.

I met Amanda Stavely once at a PR thing for investors in some tech company. If you imagine the female Terminator from Terminator 3 in a designer dress that's pretty much her apart from the robot had more humanity. I was pretty sure that if I got served at the bar before her she'd arrange for someone to knife me in the kidneys on my way home & if nobody was available she'd do it herself.
The Geordies need to be careful what they wish for.

The image I have of you, from your posting style, is about as far removed from someone who would go to a PR thing for some investors in a tech company, as is possible :icon lol:

Intriguing.

Even more so since your post was liked by 5 people (all of them long standing regulars on here) They clearly share your view. I'm fascinated to know what that image of me is. Obviously I know who & what I am but it's actually never occurred to me how I might be perceived. I'd enjoy being enlightened.

Just for the record there is absolutely no element of sarcasm, defensiveness or confrontation about all of this. I'm genuinely interested to know what the image of me is o_O

You’re clearly intelligent, as you’re able to articulate your feelings very well.

You talk about growing up in the 70s, so I’m guessing you’re 10-15 years older than me (I was born in ‘76).

You seem to have a cynicism about certain aspects of modern life and with the musical taste you’ve hinted at, it would suggest to me that you’re very anti-establishment. I would form the opinion, from that, that PR isn’t something you would necessarily buy into. I guess the PR aspect was more what stood out to me than the tech side, or investment side, of your post.

The cartoon image in my head is something like a 70s punk at heart, with a job like a professor in something. You can then teach what you like and drink whisky when you get home :D

I am definitely not a psychologist, though (I’m a mathematician), so I’m probably way off :023:

As a side note to that, I’ve often wondered what TBers do in real life. I’ve never met one and, to be honest, I’m not sure whether I want to, as many of you appear to be weirdos :006:

I imagine you all sat in a row, completely naked, covered in oil and/or lard, wearing a variety of gimp masks and holding a range of unusually shaped fruit and vegetables

If i have misjudged any of you at all, then I humbly apologise

That’s how my wife and I are sat just now, while we watch the news.

I’ve met at least three. All lovely people in real life. Who would have thought that?

Just spent ten minutes looking for the camera.

Where is it you perve?

Pretty much spot on. I'm 53,terminally cynical about more or less everything. The event I attended was a blag. A friend of mine was going & said it was a free bar. In those days that was enough for me to attend! I was working in the music business then & freebies like that were always around. PR is pretty much complete toss & I've had more than enough contact with it to know that for certain.

Your cartoon image is pretty fair too. 70s Punk at heart definitely (minus the hair these days) But sadly not a Professor. If only. Being some ageing radical academic would suit me as I head towards old age. Not working currently due to long term illness. Before that I worked in freight haulage & was a silent partner in a music venue. I have a degree in Archaeology & in the 80s/90s I was a Roadie & lighting tech for touring bands. I've done other stuff too but it was mostly boring.

True for me. Apart from the fruit & veg. 5 a day is nowhere near enough.
