Leicester City manager Claude Puel has been approached to take up 'a major role' at French side St. Etienne, according to reports.

Puel has reportedly been sounded out by French-American businessman Jerome de Bontin, who hopes to complete a takeover of the Ligue 1 side.

France Football journalist Nabil Djellit says de Bontin, the head of a pension fund who has previously held roles at Monaco and New York Red Bulls, has contacted both Puel and outgoing Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for when his purchase of St Etienne goes through.

if this is true it would be a great face saving way out for everyone, owners can claim they wanted to keep him but he wanted to go home and he can claim the same

Yep, super convenient if real. Like when our prospective new owners didn’t really want NP to leave but hey Hull made an approach and that tactical genius Sousa was available...

He'll never hit those high notes on You're in a Bad Way

Fair play to him for trying, though

Yep, this way we can get rid without making ourselves look like a bunch of pillocks when he goes and does a good job in France, only to be turned away by Wenger, Benitez and co. and wind up with a recently sacked Sam Allardyce. Already I can't wait..

There’s no face-saving needed. He should be sacked based on his horrendous record since taking charge.

horrendous record? we finished 9th and were 14th when he took over, you might have hoped for more, so did I, but 9th in the premier league, is the second highest finishing position we have ever had

We finished 8th in 2000. And a bit better than that in 2016.

yes I had missed the 8th finish, I just went back and checked, either way finishing 9th hardly happens with an horrendous record

A very interesting and reasonable post. I want to see Puel out but I find it difficult to justify this. Fortunately in football I can let my heart rule my head. I was angry when Pearson was sacked, upset at the treatment of Ranieri, and sad at the sacking of Shakespeare - although it could be argued that the owners were correct in all three cases. I feel no emotional link to Puel.

I don’t need to go in to great detail on the continual failure to beat relegation fodder at home, or the 10 goals conceded in back to back away games, or the bemusing team selections and substitutions. One win against the worst Arsenal team since Bruce Rioch playing with 10 men and a defeat against Tottenham does not change anything.

You can edit posts withing 6 minutes of making them. This is to allow people to correct mistakes.

The reason you can't edit things after that time is to prevent people from changing history. So we can look back at things like predictions from the start of the season, and see how stupid we've all been.

    And fifth in 1910, 7th in 1927, 3rd in 1928, 2nd in 1929, 8th in 1930, 6th in 1961, 4th in 1963, 7th in 1966, 8th in 1967, and 7th in 1976.

This season is our joint-13th-best league finish.

Yeah it did, it was just a better version of football. Apparently.
