He will never ever ever be good enough defensively. In my opinion.

Not if we keep playing a system which affords absolutely zero cover for him.

Miserable set of ****s.

The lad is playing in his first Premier League season, about time some of our fans developed a bit of patience with these players rather than slagging them to hell because of a couple of bad games.

'Now now now' that's all people are about these days.

Well said Lako! Decent player with future potential so why wouldn't we want to keep him or at least get him on a contract so he can become a saleable asset if needed.

Some right miserable & unrealistic ****s on here but that's nothing new tbf.

I am, frankly, amazed that people rate De Laet.

I genuinely think he is the worst player in our regular squad.

Now I know why you go by the name "Miles away" !

Go on then....who is worse?

I've watched every single game this season...he's consistently out of position, making rash challenges and has massive lapses in concentration. In short, he's been dreadful. Pace is his only asset.

A four year deal is mind numbing.

I'd say drinkwater and Nugent have been worse, Moore no better.

Can't argue that Drinkwater's form this season has been poor.

Moore is several years younger than De Laet and I'd say a better player.

Nugent, well, yeah he hasn't played well this year either.

All of the above had standout years last season though....I'm not sure De Laet did.

I agree Moore is a better playerbut has been worse for me this season.

I reckon the length of deals are a trade off by the club. We are probably paying reasonable wages with lots of clauses should we be relegated etc. The players are ok with that provided they have the security of a long term deal.

De Laet seems like a really top lad. His attitude is always first class, he's a grafter and will do his up-most for the cause every time he plays.

The only issue I have with him is the fact that he can't defend. He has been hopeless at it since we bought him and hasn't improved one iota since. His positioning is garbage, his awareness of danger is completely absent, he's shite in the air and he has a tendency to lunge in to challenges stupidly. In summary, he is not Premier League quality.

He'll be 26 in a couple of weeks so he's hardly still learning the game. I really can't see him improving any further so I just don't get awarding a contract of this length. NP bought Simpson for decent money, gave him a three year contract and no doubt he's being paid well as a former QPR/Newcastle player. Simpson will be 28 in January.

Odd.
