First round of the group stages tonight.

Spurs were leading 1-0 at Inter with 4 minutes left and lost. Icardi scored an absolute belter.

Our old mates Club Brugge are all over Dortmund but can’t score. Porto have missed a penalty at Schalke.

Red Star are in it this year, playing Napoli tonight.

Good old James Richardson on the Goals Show on BT is a good watch.

Ajax with a performance worth reopening this thread. 4-1 up against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeau. 5-3 on agg.

And Dusan Tadic.....Soton didn’t get the best out of him

Be funny when Spurs **** this up in the 2nd half.

What a shame. Man City fail to get what they paid for yet again.

Come on...massive game, everything at stake, need a result on the night to go through...& you've got SPURS.

FFS...that only ever ends one way doesn't it? For years on end it's been the same. You couldn't wish for a more perfect opponent in the circumstances & you STILL **** it up. Laughable.

Is this where they start to challenge Spurs for the title of arch bottlers? Do they throw the Prem away by losing to them again at the weekend? Trying to be the best in Europe but getting dumped out by other Prem teams 2 years in a row?

Man City are the new Tottenham & its as funny as ****.

But not if Spurs win the sodding thing obviously.

Booooooo

Serves the arrogant prick right for that abomination of a team he put out in the first leg. What a twat

Barca and Ajax final please

They've always been defensively suspect. It's a balance that Pep seems to like, their defensive strategy appearing to be borrowed from American football (gridiron) - offence is the best defense. Simply outscore their opponents when necessary. It's a theory I guess and, in fairness, it usually works.

I thought the ref was going to disallow that Spurs goal, he certainly had a good long look.

Last nights match was the first time VAR has given me a moment of concern.

I'm all in favour of it to eliminate wrong decisions. However, imagine being a Man City fan last night celebrating that late goal. It must have been the nearest thing they've experienced to that Aguero goal against QPR. There was absolute carnage. And then on the screen it says 'VAR Review' and you have to wait and wait and then it all turns to dust. It's not like going up to celebrate and seeing a lineman's flag is it? It's cruelty.

My VAR concern is the old 'consistency' one. Sure, refs get the chance to look again, to review, but you'll never get refs giving consistent interpretations. Stands to reason. No two people ever agree.

Case in point last night's decision to allow the goal. Debates follow as to whether it was or wasn't intentional hand ball, whether it was even hand ball, whether it matters at all etc etc etc. The goal was allowed yet you see penalties awarded (e.g. PSG v Man U) for just as debatable hand ball.

No love lost for me over Man City but I can appreciate how their fans might feel.

Whatever, I half expect a defensive revamp at Man City over the summer. They were tactically naive, I thought, over the 2 legs and can only blame themselves for being out.

Completely agree. Before last night I absolutely wanted it in the PL, now I’m not so sure.

Except it clearly wasn't handball, and Aguero was clearly offside when the ball came off Silva for Sterling's goal

So VAR has prevented the complete travesty of a team going through to the semi final due to an incorrect refereeing decision

Bang on the money, and the sooner it comes in the better
