    Leicester v Nottinghamshire

The demographic of 20/20 match supporters is different to real cricket ie 4 day games, the supporters are less educated, less interested in cricket, more working class and many go to matches to get drunk and have a party. After all 20/20 is more focused on entertainment rather than talent or sport.

    The way forward

Leicestershire are having another great season (not). One particular area of concern is the pace bowling attack. I never believed it was right for the club to release Malik who was performed reasonably ok in all three formats and I don't see how Buck, Ireland, Freckingham, Williams, Wyatt can...

    Leicestershire v Derbyshire T20

Same problems as the last game; O'Brien scoring rate too slow, Buck leaking runs (or Buck playing), not being able to take enough wickets (story all season in all formats to be honest) and the middle order collapsing. No Smith or Taylor (is he injured) and isn't it about time the likes of Robson...

    Leicestershire v Gloucestershire YB40

Well played Cobb, O'Brien and Williams. Hopefully, Cobb and O'Brien can use these innings as a platform for the next 4 day game. I have always thought Cobb should try and develop his bowling more. I'm surprised Taylor was used as a 6th bowler though and he seems to be underused lately.

    Gloucs (H)

Maybe I am being harsh on O'Brien as he is a wicketkeeper too and did get one 63, and also has a good career record as w/k batsman. However, clearly being 2 down for 10 and 20 odd runs or less each innings, each game will add pressure to the middle order and expose them to the new ball.

    Gloucs (H)

They can't carry on with the current openers. In the match the combined score for the openers was 9! Drop Thornely and O'Brien and bring in Smith and Robson, they can't do any poorer and give the gloves to Eckersley. I would be also tempted to argue for bringing in someone like Wells for Cobb...

    Leics news Winter 2012-13

White was performing well in the four day game and would of been one of the first names on the team sheet. Never fast, fast and could bowl rubbish, but he took lots of wickets, so will be missed more for his bowling than batting with Thakor now emerging. In the one day game I thought White...

Yes, no wooden spoon, which is good! If it were not for those deducted points at the start of the season after the Glamorgan win Leicestershire, would have come one place higher.

Jones made a mistake in my view, he could of had a career after cricket like alot of players. He was the man in possesion and being picked ahead of Smith. When one factors in the retirement of Jefferson and Boyce being moved into the middle order, that left Thornely, Smith and himself competing...

In the end Boyce signed a two year contract and Tom Wells has signed too. Didn't Leicestershire promote Nixon's book. I will have to get hold of a copy. What does he say about Tom New, I was interested that he wasn't kept on after all those years at the club?

    Kent CC

As you have said I don't mind County making an effort to keep Cobb as he has improved and can play all forms and bowl and field. I was putting into context his and Buck's figures. I also rate Cobb's captaincy better than Hoggard's. He seems to think outside the box more, like opening with a...

    Kent CC

Cobb averages 24.64 as a top order batsman after 50 first class matches. Cobb peformed in limited overs last season, but its only this season that he has shown any sort sustainable form in the four day game with a current average of 33.80. That is about average and the mininum you would expect...

    Six figure cut

The fourth innings like today will happen now and then if you have team where all the top order including wicket keeper are under 24 bar Boyce. If you look at the figures Thornely has played no better or worse than Boyce, but has gained a two year contract. Leicestershire need a balance of...

    Kent CC

This game needs a thread. I have to be honest and say that Leicestershire threw the game away and there was no way they were going to chase near 300 in less than a day in the fouth innings. If Leicestershire had just batted out the first innings they would of got at least 300 with 7 wickets in...

Joseph hasn't been no where near as good since he got a seasons contract and Dixey finds it hard getting into double figures at present. I would keep Boyce though. It's a shame about Jefferson's injury problems, as he can play all forms well. In the championship 3 batsman have scored 2...

    Essex net session

According to todays summary on Cricinfo, Thornely has been given a two year contract. I would say Boyce has a better record than Smith, as opener but he seems to be much better suited to the middle order.

If your friend can take Masters apart then he must be professional standard because there are few in county cricket that take Masters apart he is one of the most economical bowlers on the scene.

Masters has already got going, not fast, fast but he takes wickets by bucket loads and another who Leicestershire didn't hold onto.

    Gloucs v Leics CC match

From the starting eleven I would say. Certain for next season: Cobb (promoted to one day captain), Sarwan, Eckersley and White Surprised if they weren't retained: Boyce (improved one day record, Jefferson injury prone etc), Thornely (same as Boyce, also bowls) Smith (I think he may get...

    ECB40 Worcs match thread

I did think it sounded odd and I don't think White should be made a scapegoat for the teams failings. I actually think he needed a break from limited overs and I noticed he hasn't bowled alot in the last few games probably due to economy factors. Maybe that may of been a factor. In four day...

    ECB40 Worcs match thread

I agree some players, but some have also shown signs of improvement as well like Cobb in four day cricket and Boyce in the 20 over format. Might sound odd, but I actually think the bowling has been weaker than the batting this season especially in limited over cricket.

    ECB40 Worcs match thread

Sarwan played well, but a few had decent strike rates when batting. I'm sure Taylor and Jones had strike rates above 200 at the end. At one point Leicestershire were chasing 11 runs odd an over, so a great win and Taylor again got Leicestershire over the line.

Wayne White says on his twitter that it is for "not playing for the team". If true the management and coaches at Leicestershire are a joke and a disgrace to cricket. In fact lets face it they are useless anyway no matter what happened.

Sarwan Signs on for two more years

I would agree on Naik, but the club has invested alot in him and he has a decent record to fall back on. They would need more than just Sykes in the spin department. Mommsen looks like a bits and pieces cricketer (maybe ok in limited overs etc) and not a frontline spinner. Joseph has a...

Sarwan Signs on for two more years

I would be surprised if Naik left Leicestershire who seem to think highly or him and plus Henderson is nearing the end of his playing career. They would need more in the spin department than just Sykes, who lacks experience in the first team. Naik has a proven record of taking wickets and is a...

Sarwan Signs on for two more years

Don't agree with the Malik decision who has 235 first class (4 day) wickets and experience in all forms. That leaves Leicestershire with a pace attack of Buck, Wyatt, Hoggard (near the end of his career), White, Joseph (not contracted and hit and miss) and Taylor (summer contract) In first class...

    Notts v Leics T20

Lets face it Nottinghamshire are one of the strongest counties nationally at present. Also considering the following didn't play: Franks, Swann, Broad, Fletcher, Patel, Adams, Hales and Philips.

    Durham v Leicestershire T20

I agree if Leicestershire are sensible they will try and keep Henderson on in some capacity probably as a coach. He should of played far, far more matches for South Africa.

    Durham v Leicestershire T20

I would think Henderson when Naik comes back from injury may move aside more in 4 day cricket. I still think he can play part time in 40 and 20/20s though. I agree on Du Toit, but you can't compare him to Boyce in the last 2/3 seasons the first has averaged about 15 and the later around 30. Who...

Jefferson scored 74 in the seconds against Derbyshire just over a week ago. Play both Dixey and Eckersley in limted overs nothing to lose. I hope Taylor was injured, if not it was a poor decision to leave hime out. On Radio Leicester they think highly of him and say he is a decent fielder...

    Durham v Leicestershire T20

Smith, Sarwan, Eckersley and Thornley are not natural 20/20 players. Unless those batsman signifcantly change their styles Leicester can't go into a match with all those four playing out of the top order. Only one can play at most. Boyce has upped his strike rate this year. But consider that...

    First win since April

White is going at 10 an over for his 20/20 career. One of Leicestershire most improving and most effective bowlers in the 4 day format, but in limited over cricket he is too expensive especially 20/20. They could of got away with him not bowling yesterday and for sure he shouldn't have bowled...

    Leicestershire v Derbyshire CC

Leicestershire rarely bat well first in 4 day cricket in recent years. Hoggard needs to go as captain - what idiot would send batsman into bat when it is overcast and humid and why the hell is Buck playing instead of Henderson! The game is over before the of the first day.

    Kent v Leics CC

At present Boyce, Thornely, Cobb, Sarwan and Eckersley have scored hundreds and White has made some runs. Smith and Du Toit average around and less than 15 this season after 8 games. To play one in the first team is bad management to play both means that there needs to be a signficant review of...

Re: This week's new signing My first ever post I have had a look at this forum and followed 'County' for years, but enough is enough! Buck and Wyatt are rubbish, expensive and never take wickets (well on average 1 wicket per game) Cobb first change is a joke - he is a number 6 bowler, why...
