I said on here back in April that we needed to add significantly. We were well short in terms of numbers, cover and competition.

First things first, we retained our main players and have extended contracts. We've only lost one significant player from last season, Lloyd Dyer, and this was sensible all round.

We've then added 11 players, 3 for the U21 squad and 8 for the first team squad. The 8 being, Hamer, Simpson, Upson, Cambiasso, Albrighton, Powell, Lawrence and Ulloa. These are in for a net outlay of around £10m.

We've only seen a worthwhile contribution from one of these so far (Ulloa) and he's already looking like a terrific buy. The rest appear to be largely NPs first choice recruits with the possible exception of Simpson and Lawrence who seemed to come as a result of knock backs and late availability. Some joined early, others like Cambiasso and Powell seemed to take months of patience and negotiations.

Overall and without the benefit of hindsight, I have to say that I think NP, SW and the team have done a tremendous job here. They've added the right sort of players for who we are and where we are in our development. We've added experience, quality, potential and options.

We now have a squad capable of competing at this level and I'm genuinely excited to see how it all pans out from here on. When you see some of the absurd signings clubs made over the summer, McCormack for £11m to Fulham being just one example out-stripping our total expenditure, we've done very good business.

I agree BN. There will still be 'experts' on the TV who haven't heard of a lot of our players, and by default that means that we will struggle, but I think we've done some really good business this summer. The future looks good in the longer term too. It genuinely feels to me like there is a plan in place and things aren't just being done in an ad hoc manner.

agreed. Mahrez, Moore, Drinkwater, King and Vardy will be well known players by the end of this season and cost us about the same all in as what Hulle have spent on Mo Diame. Theyll be considerably more valuable as a result of this season from early signs against top teams. on another note, I cant believe weve been allowed to take Rowley, Barmby, Lawrence and Powell straight out of Man Utds dev squad. two of the stars of their u21 set up would never have been allowed to leave so early under ferguson. id rather those 4 fighting to get near the 16 than a 31 year old Jermain Defoe on £60k a week as a 1 season sticking plaster..

Chuffed with the deals we've done, added depth in all over the pitch. Yesterday our only cover in attacking midfield was Taylor-Fletcher, now we have two highly rated young forwards In Powell and Lawrence.

I have to say that this is all very impressive BUT without NP and his back room staff being able to:

A) Confirm their favourite flavour of Monster Munch.
B) Plug their lap tops into he back of a sofa.
C) Confirm alll soft top cars have been replaced with conventional roofs.

I can't say their work is complete.

I am STILL waiting for some firm action to be taken on chains, personalised number plates and half-time queue cutting.

Whilst its boring and frustrating for supporters, the policy of non disclosure about possible targets, ( with the exception of Cambiasso thanks to a balloon head), has resulted in the Club getting two highly prized assets on the cheap, and in the case of Lawrence, a definite a steal at a million quid. The likes of McGoldrick and jeez I've forgotten the ex Wigan lads name who has joined Crystal Piss have between them, cost their new clubs 15 million quid. So well done to all those who arranged and kept tight lipped about these deals.

Am I right that these are our options for each position?

GK: Schmeichel, Hamer, Logan
RB: De Laet, Simpson, Moore, Wasilewski
CB: Morgan, Moore, Wasilewski, Upson
LB: Konchesky, Schlupp
CM: James, Drinkwater, Hammond, King, Cambiasso, Powell
WM: Mahrez, Knockaert, Albrighton, Lawrence, Schlupp,
FOR: Ulloa, Nugent, Vardy, Wood, Schlupp, GTF

I'm a bit worried about LB but otherwise I think it's looking good.

centre backs a bit of a worry too, considering you need at least 2 of them and currently we only have 3 fit. You have to question if Upson will ever be fit.

Have to assume we think he will return to full fitness. Can't imagine we would have left ourselves open to such a risk otherwise.

RDL can also cover left back and probably centre back. We've also used Konchesky at centre back once or twice I think?

i agree though, would've liked an extra defender in

The loan window opens in about a week, I think or is that just in the rest of the football league?
