Back to 3-5-2

O'neill going to Villa (who will definitely switch to 3 at the back) begs the question, should Leicester go back to the formation that has historically served them best? 3-5-2.
It Keeps us strong in the air at the back (we have a lot of depth in the centre of defence) and allows us to play it out without lumping it down the flanks. It also means that our wide players (whoever gets chosen) will start off further up the pitch. and be able to support/service Our front two in a way that has been lacking for at least a season.
Not to go on, but it also allows us to play three in midfield, which would help given that it has been consistently proved that no two of our current midfield can hold the ball meaningfully for any length of time. Wesolowski and two of Johnson, Williams and Hughes would work better than two playing on their own. Admittedly the lack of A Lennon, Izzet, Parker or Scott Taylor, along with the lack of pace/quality down the flanks is at the core of our consistent underperformance, but a formation that puts less stress on areas in which we are weak would help be better way forward than the fragile 4-4-2 that we currently use. After all, there is no money available to bring in players of the quality we were used to having in key positions at City

If Maybury went and we got Stuart Elliot in on the left, that would look an impressive team!

Re: Back to 3-5-2

IMO no, we looked OK on saturday with Low playing wide and a player tucked in on the other side. I think a 4-4-2 with one wide player suits our fullback options better at the moment.

O'neill going back to Villa and our continued patchy form and lack of money begs the question, should we return to a formation that has historically served us well, and clearly palys to the strengths of our current squad. 3-5-2?

We have at least 6 passable centre halves. McCarthy, McAuley, Kisnorbo, Kenton, Johansson and (it is his favourite position) Stearman. Playing Three at the back would go some way to solving our setpiece problem and would give us cover enough to play higher up the pitch than we currently do.

This move would also allow us to play pacey players (off which we have very few) at wing back to support/service the front two in a way that we can't currently. Players like Low, Porter, Sheehan, kenton and Stearman could be considered here. With potential transfer window activity being used to find a wing back.

a key bi-product of this change would be the chance to play Wesolowski in a three man midfield. A combination of any two of our current midfielders has been proven not to work, they lack the pace and composure to dominate oppostion midfields with two alone. Without the money to sign a new Lennon, Parker or Izzet, formation and safety in numbers needs to be the answer for this season.

With more support from a three man midfield and with the confidence of a team that should concede less form set pieces, Hume and Fryatt are intelligent enough to score goals in this division, backed up by the last 15 from subs like hammond, o'grady (and hopefully dodds and chambers at some stage).

3-5-2 makes sense for this squad?
