Does playing towards the Kop actually make a difference?

Ever since I can remember at Filbert St and now at the Walkers, we've always tried to play towards the Kop in the second half. I know most clubs do it, and I can see the logic with the larger crowd behind you when the game climaxes, etc., but I was just wondering whether it actually made any difference?

Answers on a postcard please.

36,342 goals scored at the kop end compared to 33,916 at the opposite end by Leicester City players.

So its a close run thing but i think its more traditional than anything else.

I don't know how the stats would work out, but as a supporter in the Kop end I always get a bit deflated if we end up changing ends before the game.

I think it's because I expect more goalmouth action in second halves and therefore want the drama played out in front of me rather than at the other end!

As the ground is laid out in a north/south direction, then the differential gravity at the earth's surface (gravitational pull decreases as you approach the equator due to the equatorial bulge and the increased counter-gravitational centrifugal force of the earth's rotation) means that if you want to try a fifty yard mishit cross, the probability is that once every 10 million years, it will fly in the top corner at the kop end compared to the family stand, where it sails harmlessly over the bar.

So it was gravity pulling the ball past Pressman when the Preston keeper kicked it towards the family stand and I thought he just missed it because he was a fat bastard. There you go, live and learn.

In the vast majority of games City play towards the Kop in the second half. You would expect that thgis would only happen in the 50% of games that City win the toss. In the 50% of games that the opposition win the toss you would expect them to play away from the Kop in the 2nd half.
This leads me to wonder whether there is a "gentlemans agreement" you choose which way to play in league matches at your ground and we choose at our ground.

That's unless we're more worried about which end we kick towards, whereas the oppostiotion may be thinking more practically, based on the sun, wind, fire, etc.

But games are traditionally played with a half shooting towards both ends, completely negating this factor. Unless the gravitational pull changes at approximately 4pm each weekend.

No " gentlemans agreement , sir. In the second half the home team wish to play towards their own fans - the away team also wish to play towards their fans, who in most instances are situated at the other end. Who wins the toss actually doesn't matter. Simples.
