Gilbert On Target In Wales Win

0,,10274~2738478,00.jpg

Peter Gilbert was on the scoresheet as Wales U21s gained a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Tuesday night.

The Leicester left-back, who joined the Foxes from Plymouth Argyle over the summer, finished off a productive evening for Brian Flynn's side when he fired home with six minutes of the game remaining.

Gilbert was also involved in the move that produced the opening goal on the night, and he will now return to the Walkers Stadium hoping to push for a place in Craig Levein's first team squad.

Meanwhile, Alan Sheehan did not make it onto the pitch as the Republic of Ireland U21s went down 1-0 at the hands of Switzerland at Tolka Park.

Great stuff - well played Gilbert, well done son...(shame he's Welsh though init?)

I've only seen Gilbert play twice( for the Wales U21 on Sky )but each time he's looked OK a bit lightweight but I've seen worse.I think he'll be alright for us in the long run.

CL appears to have something against Gilbert though.

When he bought him he did say that he was far from the finished article. And to be fair when I saw him for the first time my first impression was to bung him back in the oven...he isn't ready. I get the impression that he is one of those players who will be brilliant one game, and utter pants the next.

I only think this because he keeps saying things like 'we dont have a proper left back' and then playing Sheean infront of him, who is by no means the "Finsihed Article". Playing Sheean seemed to me to be a slap in the face of Gilbert!

When did he say we don't have a proper left back?

Based on his performances so far Gilbert doesn't deserve a place in the team. But I don't think Sheehan (please note spelling) has been very good either when he's played this season.

Webbo posting at 4 in the morning...are you Chandler in disguise?

Webbo, you really need to kick that speed habit of yours, ok, I know the MILF go mad for it but come on lad, it's detrimental to your health!

On several occasions actually. Hes said no one has put their mark on the position - which is true.

Your clearly just looking for an argument Webmaster, and you well know it.

I would imagine Patrick Kisnorbo is currently the first choice Left Back.

Can you find an example of when he said we don't have a proper left back, or are you expecting me to take your word for it?
Saying no one has made their mark at left back is not the same as saying we don't have a proper left back.

You're clearly provoking me into an argument by making stupid comments.

Too be far to Levein, he always stated Gilbert was one for the future, he gave him an opportunity and Gilly found it difficult, the crowd did give him a bit of stick, so rather than risk destroying the lads confidence he took him out of the firing line, IMO good management, because lets be honest we as fans arent the most forgiving bunch, and if Jordan Stewart is anything to go by then CL knew Gilbert would not be given time.

IMO Gilbert will be a good player, he seems very decent in possession just needs to learn defensively which you would expect with any young defender, hence why Sheehan hasnt played on a regular basis. Also CL will take into account the current position and form of the team and how that could affect the crowd and there reactions, and also how that will affect young players like Gilly and Sheehan and the fact he is wary of having 2 inexperienced full backs, with Stearman also playing at present. Both of these players will turn out to be good players for Leicester City, but CL has a responsiblity to look after and nuture these players for the long term benefit of Leicester City and the players themselves, therefore at present it would be irresponsible to throw them into the fray at the mercy of the fickle boneheads.
