Leicester City striker Dion Dublin has today signed a new one-year contract with the club.

Dublin joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Aston Villa in July 2004 and went on to make 42 appearances in his first season, scoring six goals.

The former England international was employed as a centre forward and centre half during the campaign, and was instrumental in Leicester's FA Cup run which eventually saw them knocked out of the competition by Blackburn at the quarter-final stage.

His signing will come as a major boost for City boss Craig Levein as he continues to build a squad to mount a challenge for Championship honours this coming season.

He said: "We are really thrilled that Dion has decided to re-sign. From the moment I came to the club he wanted to buy into what we were doing - both on the field and off it.

"He has certainly more than merited the offer of a new deal and we are delighted to have him on board again for next season."

Seems we are all over the moon about Dion staying....I'm pleased he has but at the same time I would have hardly been gutted if he hadn't.We still desperately need another option up front IMO.

It's a pitiful thing to say, but IMO we were in deep shit if he hadn't signed

Shows how precarious our position really is

he had a shaky start but he's been quality at the highest level and cope at this level he's a local lad and i for one am well happy about him signing

Hopefully the back 4 will pick itself next season:

Maybury.....McCarthy.....Dublin.....Stewart

With Stearman getting some playing time too.

I'd like to see us try wing-backs too as I think Maybury, Stewart and Tiatto (+ Canero and maybe Sylla but don't know really) could play the position. This would allow us to play Williams AND Hughes in the same team without anyone being out of position.

So something like:

......................Douglas

.......................Dublin
.............Stearman.....McCarthy
Maybury...................................Stewart/Tiatto
...............Kisnorbo/Joey/Tiatto
.............Hughes.........Williams

.............Connolly......DeVries/new signing

We're light on CBs to realistically play something like this and CL doesn't seem to be a big fan anyway.

i think it would be a good system as it would allow hughes and williams (if he's still here) to getting into attack position and be creative, however i can't see cl changing from 4-4-2 :-(

..............................Rab C Nesbitt

.....Maybury.......McCarthy....Dion......Tiatto

................Kisnorbo.......Joey........Sylla

...................Hughes...............Williams

...............................Connolly

Subs: Henderson, Stewart, Heath, Wilcox, De Vries

I'd expect Dublin to mostly be playing up front next season

i am still not convinced dion is a centre back, he would be a good squad player for next season as someone to lead by example and play a few games upfront. as a defender he tends to ignore his own job and make sure others are doing theirs. in the last few games he showed he could still play upfront and i hope thats where he is played next year

Craig is still planning to bring at least 1, possibly 2, new centre halfs in for the new season in my opinion.

Dion will be an option up front and cover at the back. Like it or not ladies MDV will be first choice ahead of Dion up front.

MDV will come good next year by the way.

I think the TVFA is spot on. I also expect de Vries to be a lot better next season.

well surely the only way is up for MDV, he's performance cant get worse...can they?
