- Leicester City sign Aleksandar Dragović from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal
- Dragović has won trophies in Austria, Switzerland and Ukraine during his career
- The defender has been capped 54 times at international level by Austria

The 26-year-old heads to King Power Stadium on a deal that runs to the end of the 2017/18 season and is set to join up with his new teammates after concluding international duty with Austria next week.

With 54 senior international caps to his name as well as 10 trophies from spells in the Austrian, Swiss and Ukrainian leagues, Dragović brings a wealth of experience to Leicester City’s defensive line.

A commanding and imposing authority in central defence, Dragović has steadily built a reputation as a tough-tackling defender across several European and international competitions and will now put his skills to the test for Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes in the Premier League.

Dragović’s career began in his native Austria with Austria Wien in 2009 before his obvious talents as a defender secured him a move to Swiss outfit FC Basel two years later, with whom he would win three league titles in consecutive seasons.

With FC Basel, Dragović’s performances helped the team exceed expectations both domestically and in Europe, where they would reach the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League Semi-Finals, only to lose out to Chelsea over two legs.

A move to Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv followed for the Austrian, and so did even more silverware as he helped his new team to the league title in back-to-back seasons with the club, while they also reached the UEFA Champions League Last-16, only to be eliminated by Manchester City.

Outstanding displays on big stages for both Dynamo Kyiv and Austria then persuaded German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to secure his services in the summer of 2016, where he would further enhance his reputation in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

Fantastic stuff.

No mention of an option to buy - but at least it gets us another centre back for now (who I believe can also play right back)

Sounds like a quality signing.

If we get Silva too this will be a very successful transfer day!

Reports saying Silva signing unlikely as we have only offered 4 million! Mistake? or was this part of a slimani deal going back!?

I know nothing of this guy but he's experienced and has good press. More importantly, he's a central defender!

Hopefully an excellent addition, I look toward to seeing him on the pitch.

As i understand it the Silva deal was delayed because Sporting increased the price at the last minute, The original stated price of £15 million was increased to £22 million when signed. IMO still a bargain , in relation to last seasons rating and the price we got for Drinkwater. Im confident its a done deal but will be happier when official announced and posted on here as "confirmed"

It's good that this is a loan because it's a punt. By all accounts, his stock is low at the moment as he's been poor since his move to Leverkusen. He's been a sub for them most recently.

Steve Walsh clearly liked him as we've been linked with him for a long time. Much like Slimani. He must have something but it's whether we can get him to play at his best or not.

He surely must be a big upgrade on Benny!

By all accounts, he was very upset by the behaviour of Sporting, who basically caused the transfer to collapse because of their unrealistic financial demands. My guess is they had a very angry player on their hands, answer loan him out, gets him out Sporting, but no real commitment from his side to his new team, it rids the club of a negative influence of their own making. Hopefully we will see the player who got picked for Portugal. All this now depends on the powers that be agreeing that Leicester did nothing wrong and the registration goes ahead.

Wrong thread? Wrong player?

I was wondering yesterday what we're going to do when the list Superscout sent Steve Walsh runs out. We do seem to have focused on the long term targets, which is a positive, but hopefully someone in the club is identifying the next set of potential targets.
