It should be quite the reality check for all the BM’s and all those people who would call in RL every week last season and go on about how great our players were and how Hume was ‘such a star’ and Stearman had ‘So much potential’. So much for Villa being interested in him and Barnsley are not exactly a big club in any way shape or form.

I don’t see Stearman being anything like a big loss providing we keep Chambers to play at right back. Would have liked to have kept Hume but he can certainly be replaced.

I'm gutted by both losses, if that makes me a BM so be it. Undoubtedly 2 of our best players, and I can't see how anyone could not be disappointed by us losing them, even if it was inevitable.

No doubt Mattock will be gone by the end of the week too.

What annoys me more is that Stearman went for an "undisclosed fee"... so no doubt pittance.

Although these transfers were not exactly unexpected,I do find them worrying. To lose McAuley, Stearman or Hume would not cause too much concern but, to lose all three tears the heart out of our strong defence and removes the only striker that we had who was capable of hitting the net with anything like regularity.
If these players had been purchased by top Championship, or middling Premiership teams, one could blame our position but, let's be honest, they haven't. This smacks of cashing in on our assets.
Milan is going to need to back his new man and Pearson is going to need a high percentage of his signings to fit in quickly' if we are really to bounce back.

One year left on his contract so it was probably not much of a fee.

The one thing we did have going for us was a fairly solid defence - this has now been disountled and I expect us to suffer for this next season.

If a player wants to go and has been blinded by his agent feeding him utter tripe about better opportunities then there is not much a Manager can do. He obviously didnt want to stay at the club, so why keep an unhappy player who will disrupt the dressing room? There isnt anything to say that he was forced out of the door after all.
