I used to think Joy Division were a boring, miserable shower of shite. But after being out last weekend, 3 songs came on in the place we were, all sounded decent. So I went out and bought myself a Joy Division album, and I have to say I'm impressed!

I bought 'Substance', it's got the only songs I'd heard of on it!

Is that a good choice?

Substance is the compilation of all the singles and B-Sides, it's good, but being as some of them are B-Sides there's some filler on there.

There 2 studio albums are "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer" I prefer Closer, but I suggest getting Unknown Pleasures first as it's more accessable...

Substance is probably the best start for a first goer with Joy Division because it features their more 'chunker' singles as opposed to the 'stripped down' stuff of their albums.
