Found a reference to a Billy Gibson who played in a friendly in 1980 against Australia. We lost 2-1 apparently. Don't remeber this at all!

Hope this helps

Who was the Scottish striker, first name Billy, who left Leicester for Enderby Town in 1980 ?

Thanks

Gibson was a Scot - but he was called Willie, not Billy; he was a left-back, not a striker; he went to Nuneaton Borough, not Enderby; and he was still playing for us in 1981, so can't have left in 1980. All of this leads me to think that Gibson might not be the answer to the question.

... unless we had a Billy Gibson and a Willie Gibson at the club at the same time.

Can I have a bit more thinking time on this one?

Not impossible, the team that Kettering Pete has posted does say Billy, not Willie, and he came on as a sub for our Gary.

You take as long as you like boc

Just realised that this will be Billy Hughes - Scottish, striker. Came to us from Derby after spending 10 years or more at Sunderland. Went out on loan to ?Carlisle. Didn't go straight from us to Enderby - spent a very short time playing in the NASL in between.

Definitely the bloke that you're looking for.

It also says that Jim Melrose came on as substitute for Larry May - and I'm pretty sure that Melrose wasn't a big black centre half!
