Well usually you massive bunch of *****, games have the options to turn the sound off, which is particularly useful is you are listening to music in the background, and dont want shit game sounds over the top

Does your PC not let you adjust the browser volume?

You don't do it from within the browser, you do it using the windows volume mixer. If you have a speaker icon on your task bar, click on it, then on mixer, and you should see the volume control for each program that is using sound. If the icon isn't there you should be able to access it via the control panel.

I right click on the speaker but only get options to adjust volume control, wave, sw synth cd player etc. I can't see browser or whatever

That's the problem, the feature was introduced with Vista.
