think it would depend on the oppo be surprised if they got as many as 4k though doesnt it depend on how many tickets we get for the return game

first allocation is about 2500 i think.
second allocation about 1k.

as with most clubs nowadays,if the away team want more they have to pay for the second allocation IN FULL whether they will sell them all or not.

i'm sure the FT can be more precise in the figures though.

I think that rule is just for the Premiership, and even then home clubs usually only enforce it if they think they can sell the second allocation to their own supporters. Which is why for example we could get as many tickets as we wanted for places like Villa and Blackburn, because they never sell out for a match against us..
