You could effectively ban yourself by adding talkingballs to your host file & pointing it to 127.0.0.1

Presuming you're using a Windows PC, if you browse to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ in that directory you'll find a file called hosts.txt this is used to map IP addresses to URLs.

Whenever you type an address into your browser or follow a link your browser checks your hosts file for that address if it isn't in the hosts file it queries a DNS server for the IP address of the site.

So if you add talkingballs.co.uk into your hosts file & map it to 127.0.0.1 (localhost address) your browser won't be able to access the site.

This is a useful trick for parents that want to stop their children from being able to access certain sites.

Or for redirecting your work colleagues Facebook to MySpace, thus confusing the feck out of him for an hour

Depends on which browser you're using.

:icon_eek: I haven't found some thing that IE can do but Firefox (and others?) can't, have I?

But for either option he could simply go in and change the settings back again - thus completely defeating the object of providing an effective barrier to his lack of TB willpower

indeed
