I really dont understand the situation with Bassett spouting off in the media. How can he continue as Director of football if he gets passed up for the managers job? Are we gonna get shot of him if we appoint a new manager?

ok dave -winter now feck off

lol.  Bassett offers continuity and we need a new fresh approach. Time for Bassett to move aside.

whilst Bassett has steadied the ship and has at least got us starting to play football, he has only picked up 3 draws. Also this guy has already had one stab at this job and failed why should he be given another.

We need someone fresh with no preconcieved opinions or favourites to come in and get this club kicking again. Hopefully it will be someone who will encourage the team to play passing free flowing football, but also to develop a ruthless, winning mentality which will gives us the necessary cutting edge at both ends of the pitch.

Bassett if given the role would soon resort back to his long ball mentality, his current tactics IMO are just his way of trying to get the fans behind him so it prolongs his stay.

We need a clean sweep, somebody new in and lets build something special cos we certainly have the squad.

That largely will depend on what the selected candidate wants and in particular what style of manager he is.

If he is a MON style, no taking the coaching then wouldn't think he would want a DOF, but if his management includes coaching on a daily basis he then may need a DOF.

Obviously be sorted when the interviews get to the final few

FT - I dont see how he can carry on if the board overlook him for the managers job.

have you got anything concrete for us? you have previously stated you are happy with bassetts role in manager selection, can you elaborate on this?

Results are not everything when a new manager is appointed. Watching the last 3 games I've been more interested in performance than result, probably for the first time ever DURING a season. Arguably we deserved to win all 3 games.

It is a totally different job, to what it was 3 seasons ago. He is a proven winner at this level.

Micky Adams was also a proven winner at this level 2 seasons ago but that means nothing now. Also how long ago was Bassett a winner at this level, if I am not mistaken it was a good few years ago - football has changed.

If an employee goes for another job & doesn't get it, it doesn't mean he will then leave. Bassett has said he would stay under this scenario in the media.

It states in the Merc tonight he has a rolling 6 month contract as DOF.

The actual shortlist was drawn up by a small team that didn't involve him, although he has put suggestions forward. Sorry can't elaborate more at this time.

Thanks but no thanks, sorry Adams has gone but let's use bassetts words of wisdom and wipe the slate clean and lose him as well!!! :D

Amazing club! Bassett is appointed amidst mass disappointment; Bassett has to step down because results were so poor; Bassett is given a lucrative non job as 'DOF' (how could he "direct the football "at the club incidentally when there is a manager to take charge of the footcall matters?); Bassett is resurrected when MA finally notices that the quality of the football and results is at an abysmal level relative to the apparant playing resources; Bassett achieves 3points out of 9 tho' the football looks better -just proving what some of us had been saying about the way poor Micky had lost the dressing room & lost the plot and wants the job for the season; Bassett is allowed by this astonishingly obtuse board to make "suggestions" about a shortlist for a job in which he has publicly declared a strong interest.

Why is the club run in this way? Does anyone think its good enough?
