Bit torrents are basically just a way of file sharing. Bit torrent 'communities' such as the ones I mentioned above specialise in a certain genres of music, bootlegs or rarieties. You just need a fast internet connection, the right software and a lot of patience as the way the files are downloaded/shared is like drip feeding the information. For instance a high quality bootleg might take 24-30 hours to download depending on how many people are sharing the files and their connection speed. But it just ticks along in the background so you don't notice it. Once you've completed the download you then become a sharer yourself for as long as you want to. If you don't share you tend to be chucked out smartish as the more people sharing the quicker it becomes, hence the community aspect.
