LEICESTER 0 NORWICH 2

Norwich City claimed the first spot in the final of the Cars4All Trophy as they claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City at Roots Hall.

The Canaries were indebted to goals from Josh Murphy and Mike Clunan as they reached the final in their first appearance in the competition with a win over a Leicester side that included former Shrimpers trialist Jason Banton.

Norwich fashioned the first opportunity of the match after three minutes when Foxes goalkeeper Connor Brennan failed to collect Josh Murphy's left-wing centre and was forced to scramble across his goal to block Jamar Loza's back-post effort.

In return, Leicester had to rely on scraps as the Norfolk club organised themselves well defensively. Joe Dapoo was presented with a chance on eleven minutes when Kyle McFadden slipped on the edge of the penalty area, but the wide-man dragged his shot wide, and forward Tom Hopper similarly misdirected an effort past the left-hand post when Oliver Norburn robbed Dean Florence.

The Canaries largely controlled possession, and Murphy had an excellent chance to pick out Loza again after Klaidus Jaskus' raking ball forward down the left flank, but he hoisted his cross out off play as he slipped off of the Roots Hall turf.

However, he made no mistake when he was given the chance to put his team in front four minutes before half-time. Jamaican Loza received the ball 25 yards from goal and picked out the left-winger with a beautifully-weighted pass, and Murphy proceeded to caress the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of Brennan's net.

Leicester started the second half brightly as Dapoo raced away down the right-hand side and arrowed a cross into the six-yard box but, despite Remi Matthews spilling the ball, Jaskus was in position to clear the danger ahead of Hopper.

That allowed Clunan to double the advantage seven minutes into the second half-hour period. The 17-year-old, who has been with the Norfolk club for ten years, collected the ball in space thirty yards from goal and - in a tournament already well-known for outstanding goals - smashed a stunning strike past Brennan.

Content with their two-goal lead, Norwich allowed Leicester onto them more in the final twenty minutes, and Matthews was fully-extended by a Norburn snapshot on 40 minutes. The second-year shotstopper then gratefully clutched a fierce Hopper effort to his chest before saving the same forward's deflected effort.

There was never any real threat of Leicester scoring, however, even when defender Liam Moore attempted to lob Matthews with an audacious, if slightly over-hit, 35-yard effort during injury-time.

LEICESTER 1 WOLVES 0

Leicester City under 18's eased their way past Wolverhampton Wanderers under 18's to secure third place in the Cars4All Trophy at Roots Hall today.

Tom Hopper's first half strike for the Foxes was enough to separate the two sides in a match that Leicester dominated from start to finish.

Hopper capatilised on a defensive mistake from the Wolves defence to fire a low shot into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the penalty area after 17 minutes.

It was the first real chance of the match and City nearly doubled their advantage five minutes later when Oliver Norburn drilled an effort just wide of the post from distance.

Wolves goalkeeper Jon Flatt was called into action to deny Hopper before Flatt made an excellent save from Leicester's Joe Dadoo after he got on the end of Jason Banton's cross just before half-time.

16 minutes after the break and Flatt was back in the thick of it as he continued to keep Wolves in the game. This time the Wanderers custodian saved coolly at the feet of Hopper after spilling Banton's initial effort.

Dadoo fired wide on the break away six minutes before full-time for Leicester before City should have wrapped the game up twice in the final minute.

Firstly, Flatt denied substitute Harry Panayiotou after wriggling his way past both of Wolves centre-backs before the Wolves goalkeeper was equal to another Leicester sub Ossie Kone.

But Flatt's impressive display between the sticks was in vein with Wolverhampton ineffective in attack as Leicester finished third in the competition and Wolves fourth.
