City's Starlets Hit Robins For Six
Posted on: Sat 05 Jan 2008

Leicester City's Under-18s began the New Year in spectacular fashion with a resounding 6-2 victory at Bristol City.

The Foxes went a goal down early on before responding with a 25-yard cracker-jack from Ashley Chambers (pictured).

Billy McKay then netted his first of the game to make sure the visitors went in to the break a goal up.

Steve Beaglehole's men upped the tempo after half-time and added further goals through McKay, Ryan Beswick, Craig King and debutant Elliott Chamberlain, who is still only 15 years-of-age.

"It was a very pleasing performance especially after going a goal down early on," admitted Academy Manager Jon Rudkin.

"We really posed a threat going forward and could even have added more to our tally, hitting the post on a couple of occasions as well."

The 18s are back in action on Tuesday evening at the Walkers Stadium when they entertain Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup (7pm).

Team: Pentney, O'Neil (Hicks), Garner, Rowe-Turner, Cobb, King, Cox, Tuttle, Beswick, McKay (Chamberlain), Chambers (John).

It's good to see things like this.

The thing is though, the U-18 win every game by 4 goals, the U-21s win easily, the reserves (occasionally) get good wins, the Masters over 35s win the Masters cup, the one-legged over 40s with bad eyesight 3-a-side team would probably win the one-legged over 40s with bad eyesight 3-a-side championship trophy but the 11-a-side first team manage to loose to all and sundry every other game.

Grrrrrrr.

It does mean nothing. Those that start masturbating about victories from a bunch of adolescents are frankly weird. I don't give a flying feck whether they win every game 10-0 or lose every game 10-0.

We've had no benefit from the 'Academy' since it was set-up. Heskey came through before the system was started. The only one since was Piper and the money we got for him was pointless as all it did was delay administration by a few weeks.

All we've had is loads of talk about the next 'Heskey', 'Lineker' etc but they've all been shite. Remember Jon Stevenson, Tomi Petrescu, Tommy Wright. The only thing our Academy seems to successfully achieve is a relentless production line of egotistical, yet gutless, pricks.

None of them are in any way prepared for a career as a top level footballer. They're very well trained at getting pished, gambling and buying cars with my money, but that's not really the point is it?

You would fit in really well at foxes talk, lots of like minded people there. :icon_bigg

Brown Nose is correct - at the moment our academy is shit hot. So how do LCFC fans feel overall? Terrible!

The actual quote was that academy football is Micky Mouse stuff, and not that the LCFC academy "means nothing" as Steven is apparently trying to portray, no doubt to further beat IH over the head with. The quote wasn't even aimed at our academy anyway, rather the likes of Man Utd not allowing players to go out on loan and instead keeping them in academy football, which is clearly a much lower level.

The point of the academy is to get players ready for the first team. There's no other reason for it to exist. The actual games are entirely meaningless. Do you go and cheer them on? No, I don't expect so. In which case, why do you care what the results are? These games do not matter!

The only measure of an academy system is whether the players are prepared and ready for first team football. I would suggest that those who have come from the academy into the first team in recent times - King, Chambers, Mattock, Sheehan, etc, are not at all ready for the first team.

In fact - they need to go out on loan! Which I think proves Holloway's point, does it not?
