I was just having a chat with a mate I had not seen for ages and was talking about how LCFC fans have changed (or maybe they have'nt and it is my older age showing), but when you go back not too far to the Brian Little days (which is the time I started going regulary), with a team filled with a real mish mash of players, no outstanding quality but a real sense of togetherness and team spirit, the fans really seemed to get right behind it no matter what the results. Yes we would have a bit of a moan, but not to the extent that you hear down Filbert Way at the moment.
It seems we have come full circle in some ways, we are probably at the same stage we were when BL took over, he needed to come in and settle the ship and turn results around after narrowly avoiding relegation, but CL has a harder task IMO as our (the fans) expectations are alot higher having been through the highs of the MON era with alot of fans growing up following these highs without knowing the lows. I think it is sad that we are already hearing people questioning CL, making comments like 'give him until christmas' and even 'it's time to have a change, he's had long enough' and lambasting him for the sale of Conners and the players he signed to cover the loss. Even Rob Kelly is seen to be defending the signing of Hume, why should he have to?
We are all LCFC blue through and through and sometimes I wish some fans could have a reality check, see the bigger picture and maybe lower the expectations a little, we all want success, but some want it in an unrealistic time scale like NOW. It will come good, but it will take time and maybe it might not even be CL that manages to bring back the full glory we crave and be the present day Brian Little setting the sound foundations of a team that somebody else can build on. Don't get me wrong I would love it to be CL and very soon, but the main thing I want at the moment, is a team of players that have a bit of pride and passion for the blue shirt and give us something in games that we can all leave afterwards proud to support our team no matter what the result.
I'll be there no matter what, maybe this is just like craving back your childhood, or some might say blind faith, but I say it is love for my team.
Now lets get behind them lads and lasses starting on Saturday and show a bit faith in what CL is trying to do.
(this was not having a go at you Alex, just didn't want to start a new thread)

Then MON came along, 5 seasons or so of success and mixing it in circles most fans had never previously experienced, now and this is what worries me is that we are starting to adapt the Forest mentality, these glory days are the past, we have a fantastic stadium, a good manager and the foundations of a decent young squad, however this rebuilding job will take time and there is no gaurantee we will ever achieve or replicate the success under MON.
Charlton have been in the premier league for a number of years now, and they seem to be consistently improving season upon season under an excellent manager, but as yet they are still to reach a showpiece final or qualify for European football, this just magnifies the magnificent achievements of MON in what he did achieve, the way we "boxed above our weight". But now we are back to a position where many will say is our level, but we have a manager if given the time and opportunity to continue his long term plan, will at least IMO deliver a team capable of achieving promotion back to the premiership. After that who knows.
Thats why we need a reality check, we have just signed 2 exciting young players for decent money and we have what will feel like 2 new signings in Kisnorbo and Hughes ready to return from injury, Weso will be back by xmas hopefully as well, and we have a number of talented youngsters within the academy sides who if they continue to progress could produce 5 or 6 real quality players over the next 2 to 3 years. Lets be positive last season was a low, but sometimes you have to take a step back to take 2 forward, and I truly believe with the plans in place that we will improve this season, and next season we will be a force to be reckoned with.
The new era starts tomorrow against Sheff Wed, for me this feels like the first game of the season, and I am really excited about it, lets get behind this young team, if we give them our support, they will revel in it and we will reap the benefits in improved performances and results, lets all work together to get Leicester back to where we belong and lets enjoy the journey along the way.
