Compatability View Settings

A number of times over the last month when I have accessed the internet I have been unable to adjust the page. Options like Zoom and Page Size are disabled and the only thing written is "Compatability View Settings." I have made no change that explains this.
I have to restart the computer to get rid of this which is a nuisance if I have documents open. Otherwise the laptop is fine.
Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong and how I stop this happening in future.

It looks like you're using Internet Explorer 8, if you insist on using IE you should be using version 9 and that may solve your problems.


But you should think about installing a different browser.


The following are all better than Internet Explorer:

Google Chrome - http://www.google.com/chrome/
Firefox - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
Opera - http://www.opera.com/

I used to use IE and nothing else and have now been converted to google chrome which I find much better than IE either version 9 which I downloaded but wish I hadn't bothered, or IE version 8 which I used to use before I used google chrome

Thank you both for the help. I am indeed using IE8. This may be an obvious question but if I change to IE9 or Chrome will I lose my "Favourites". Obviously I do not want to go to the trouble of jotting them down and resaving them unless it is necessary.

If you update to IE9 it should definitely copy favourites to the new version.

I think Chrome, Firefox and Opera can all do that too.


You could install all of them to see which one you prefer. They're all free.

Thank you for the help. I have updated to IE9 and it seems to have solved the problem.
