Just wondering, I know there's an age old trick at the casino where you will always win if you constantly double your stake on the red/black after you've lost (so £2, £4, £8 etc.)

But if you do this you're likely to get your head kicked in by the casino staff round the back.

But anyone ever tried this betting on football matches? You're always likely to find one match a week where a team is "Evens" to win or the draw is "Evens" and while I accept this is not 1 in 2 chance as it has little to do with chance, but surely if you kept doing it you would eventually win?

Anyone ever tried this before/do the bookies keep records of your bets to stop people doing this?

Bookies have an age old trick of letting people think there are ways that are certain to make a profit, there isn't. If there was the bookies/casinos would be out of business.

I know, but I'm not going to be betting big money here, just a theory. I know the probability of losing money in the long run is against you, but if you do it once or twice it's vastly in your favour.

If you feel the urge to bet like you have described above please let me know as I would love to be your Casino/Bookie. The roulette one I would lay all day as I have the zero working for me (or the zero and double zero in the States). The football one sounds even more nightmarish as there are many permutations.

If you did want to try and make cash at betting I would build some software that took odds from betting exchanges, the Tote and the bookies and then tried to find, for any given event, a set of odds from all those that when you back them all to win £10,000 it costs you less than £10,000. So called arbitrage. I am sure with all the bookies, exchanges and other gambling channels and now with some degree of automated betting it must be possible. :icon_wink

Good point. I remember someone posting a thread on here a few months back that took the odds from 3 different betting places and with free bets etc. you couldn't lose.

Did someone edit the thread title as a joke btw, or was that just a Freudian slip? :102:

It came from a Middlesbrough fansite which has this as a regular feature. The earnings from it are limited though because the free bets are invariably introductory offers from online bookies and there are only so many of them that you can sign up to.

When you do win, it will be a small amount, but you could potentially lose a lot.

If you have a long losing streak, the amount of your next bet could be more than you can afford, or more than the bookie/casino would allow you to bet.

You won't always win, it won't be either red or black on every spin.

Starting from Saturday, I'm going to bet £2 on every premiership team drawing.
If none of them draw, then the week after I'll bet £4, then £8, etc.
As soon as any of the twenty teams draw, I'll stop betting on them. Eventually, all 20 teams will have drawn a match (I hope).

As odds for a draw are normally better than evens, I hope this works a treat.

I'll let you know the results week by week.

I will put up a vBookie event for this. :icon_wink
