Hi,

Some times I need to access Control Panel from IE and all I used to do in IE6 was type 'Control Panel' into the address bar and hey presto, Control Panel opened up.

Now, when I try to do this in IE8 it just uses a default search engine to search for Control Panel.

How can I launch Control Panel from the IE8 address bar?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe.

One way of working around the problem (of IE8 not letting you just type the command into the address bar) is to have a shortcut to Control Panel on the 'Favorites bar'. Just one click and the Control Panel is there.

Ok, its not the same as typing in the words but I find it quicker.

The trouble is, sometimes I need to launch Control Panel with another account (e.g. my su account). Opening IE with my su account is simple and I used to do this, then type Control Panel, to open Control Panel as my su, but now I cannot do this.

Any suggestions?

That makes no sense

Any suggestions?

Talk more sense

It makes sense. I just don't want to have to log out of windows, then log back in as super user to open control panel with elevated priviliges. That takes too long.

I want to be able to run control panel as super user but cannot do this any more.

Windows doesn't use SU accounts :102:

but I have a su account at work which has different permissions as far as windows goes so I can change things that are only reachable via control panel.

Do you mean an Admin account? As far as I know Windows doesn't have SU accounts, SU is a Unix/Linux term(not the same as admin).
If I'm wrong then I'd love to be educated.

Maybe it's our terminology Macky.
