Mawsley

He started brightly in his gay blue boots. Good running off the ball, nice vision and held his own against a very physical Port Vale side.

His close control and passing was top notch and he impressed the Cobblers faithful with his all-round effort. He found good shooting positions on a number of occasions but Billy McKay (for all his fancy footwork) failed to see him and make the telling pass to his feet.

He was replaced after an hour due to the team needing to shore itself up thanks to cretinous reffing and a red card. He left the field to a standing ovation from the 4,000-odd crowd.

Not bad for a debut.

With McKenzie having his dodgy knees and Guinan being a twat he's going to get his fair share of starts - it'd be nice if he could start banging them in but he's going to need a better level of service.

McKay - also former LCFC from what I can remember?

Mawsley, I know you only saw an hour of him but from what you saw is King good enough to cut the mustard long-term here, or more of a lower league player on first impression?

You can tell if a player is cut out to play in what league in about 10 mins......

I watched him once last season at Dagenham playing for Hereford. From that peformance, I thought he'd make a good solid lower league career, he's a very hard worker but lacked a bit of pace when trying to get a pass or shot off. However, who knows? If he has a good season at Northampton, it might give him a step up in confidence. He's certainly not out of his depth at L2 level.

There's no way to make that call based on this afternoon. He doesn't strike me as a natural forward and contributed more in direct play when he was forced into playing wide right after the centre-mid got sent off.

Three goals in thirty-odd appearances for Hereford hardly set the league alight last season.

He's not making the starting line-up now, coming on from the bench, as he simply hasn't got goals in him. As enthusiastic as a puppy, he'll gambol all over the shop but ends up chasing the ball in vain rather than taking a sensible position.

In a 4-4-2 formation he will continually drop back too far leaving the side unbalanced and unable to retain the ball up-field. And, unfortunately, in doing so adds little to the midfield dynamic. When switched to wide-right he lacks pace, doesn't make it to the line and his final ball is reminiscent of Josh Low's...and by that I mean it isn't impressive.

He's not blessed with natural skill on the ball and his positional sense is poor. He's an average Div.III/IV player at best and has no potential to make it into a City side at our current level.

From Northampton fc website 13/01/11
Striker Craig King has returned to Leicester City at the end of his loan spell.

King made eight appearances in his two month spell at Sixfields without finding the net.

"Craig worked hard for us and I would like to thank him for his efforts," said boss Ian Sampson.

"He returns to Leicester with our thanks and best wishes for the future."

On the bench tonight? Probably not.
