City keeper in the late 50s, part of the Division 2 Championship team in 1956/57 and played on until replaced by Gordon Banks in 1959, died earlier this month in his adopted warmer climes.

70 odd appearance in the top flight for City, one of three McLarens (Jim and Sandy were 'keepers pre-war) to clock up 50+ appearances in our intermittent successful periods.

Always makes me smile to see Dave in our line-ups of the 1950s next to the guy he displaced in goal, Johnny Anderson. Whereas Dave was a burly six-footer, Johnny was a good six inches smaller and slight with it.

Yes I noticed this sad news.

He was a decent keeper. You mention Johnny Anderson who was the keeper when I first went to matches. Anderson was very good considering his lack of height. I think I recall that he got at least one Scotland B cap - when Scotland still had some footballers.
