De Vries On The Move

Leicester City have today confirmed that striker Mark de Vries has joined Dutch side Den Haag on loan until the end of the 2006-07 season.

The 30-year-old frontman spent the final three months of last season on loan with Heerenveen, but has failed to break into the City first team squad following his return.

Den Haag ply their trade in the Dutch Division One alongside the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar - the later capturing Joey Gudjonsson from the Foxes over the close season.

De Vries has to date made 55 appearances for City since joining the club from Hearts in January 2005, scoring 10 goals.

I agree, I think he has been not given a fair go at City. People may slag him off but he has scored goals.

All 10 of them? 1 in 5 is not good enough. Good luck Mark but dont be under any illusions that you were good enough to play in this division.

I agree, but at the same time I'd rather have Hume and Fryatt playing. And people aren't likely to lay off MDV, so if he can't play with that then I'd rather we got rid of him. And considering he's so far down the pecking order with RK, I'd imagine there's a bit of an attitude problem there as well...

Hope he does well out there so we can either get a fee for him next summer, or he can come back and do well for us.

He'll still have a year left on his contract when he returns

But to be fair none of our other strikers are doing any better than that.

MDV didn't play for half of last season and still finished as joint top scorer.

Don't get me wrong, he's not good enough, but his goal ratio isn't exactly worse than anyone else's at the club.

Fryatt is currently four games a goal at City (not off the bench) and he is the next England player to come from us. :icon_roll Hume is one in 3 and games where he did not come off the bench de Vries is also one in 3.

He is not a great striker but realistically no worse than either Fryatt or Hume.

goals wise maybe not, however hume and fryatt offer alot more than that.

its not all about goals but be assured they will come for these two, and when they do it will be alot more than mdv

That I do disagree with..

His goals to game ratio for us might not be any worse than the others, which I'd said as well, BUT, if you take into account all round play and overall contribution, I'd say he is a worse player than the other 2.

I think the main problem for De Vries was that it took a long while for him to get going, and by the time he did start scoring the fans were already on his back and he still didn't score regularly enough for them to change their minds on him.

If De Vries had played in the second half of the season, he probably would've got 3 or 4 more goals which I think would have taken him to 12/13 for the season, which is a total I think most people would have accepted from him at the start of the season. 12/13 goals for a second striker is a decent return and I think about what most people wanted from him at the start of last seaosn, with people expecting Connolly to get 20+. Problem was when we sold Connolly, it was basically just up to De Vries to get the goals and as a main striker his tally then didn't seem enough.

And better than Hammond, who gets hero worship:icon_roll

Good luck MDV.

Could well turn out to be a loss to us this season, IF he was happy as 3rd choice striker. Goals win games and his goals:games ratio proves he does score.
