I ask this because the sides basset selected while he was in charge were pretty much the same as mickys and included one or 2 of the more bizarre elderly signings micky made, also basset is meant to have had a big say in brokering transfer deals and curiously micky always had a rep for producing good footballing teams until he hooked up with harry. I wonder if basset had a massive negative influence on micky by influencing him with a lot of outdated shite. One last thing, im not sure but forests very successful youth system only seemed to take off after basset left?? all in all i wonder if the obsession with having 'experienced professionals' in the squad and the suppression of youth players came down to basset influencing micky with lots of ideas from 20 years ago

Difficult to say and we will never know the answer. I always got the idea that MA was a fan of Bassett's so if he was influenced then I am sure MA walked into it with his eyes wide open.

At the end of the day, it was up to MA to tell Bassett to feck off out of it, pretty much like Levein did, but he wasnt strong enough to do that. If MA did allow himself to be influenced by Bassett, then IMO MA is still to blame for being too weak. If that is the case then he is not cut out for big club management.

There has to be a ruthless streak in any successful manager, like CL has already demonstrated, he could have allowed Bassett to hang around like a bad smell, offering little gems of advice, but he decided to go it alone and cut off all influences from the past regime. Maybe Micky should have done the same.

I think some people misunderstood Bassett's role in the club. Micky chose the players he wanted to sign, not Bassett.

Bassett may have been involved in the contract side of things, but we wouldn't sign players Micky didn't want.
