I wonder if anyone knows how camera model numbering works.

For instance, is the Nikon S570 the upgraded version of the Nikon S560.

I'm looking at reviews and some models aren't listed but am hoping that if the number is similar that it'll be the same model with a higher spec.

Any ideas?

No idea with Nikon. Some manufacturers are that simple to read, others not.

Judging by those I would suggest that the 570 is a sibling model with extra features over the 560.
