Ok basically on Skype, I keep getting error messages about my DirectX when the video doesn't work.

This is usually fixed by me doing run->dxdiag and then testing direct draw with the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. The video on skype will then work again when the tests are done. However its annoying having to do this every time.

I think its something to do with iTunes, as the problem only occurs when its open / iTunes resets itself after I've run the tests.

Any advice on how to stop having to do this? Can't find anything on google.

Have you got cover flow enabled as your default view in iTunes? If so turn it off, it's the only thing in iTunes that would put any real demands on the video chip.
