Saints get Bassett for pre-season

Bassett helped out Millwall with coaching last season
Championship new boys Southampton have added former Wimbledon, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest boss Dave Bassett to their coaching staff.
Bassett has agreed an initial one-month deal to help out the Saints defence as they start pre-season training.

"Dave has terrific knowledge and enthusiasm for the game, he's very good at set-pieces and at working with the back four," said boss Harry Redknapp.

"He is also a bubbly character who will be good to have around the place."

Bassett will fill the void left by Redknapp's former assistant Jim Smith, whose contract was not renewed at the end of last season due to cost-cutting measures
