Duckenfield was absolutely negligent. He lied, he falsified evidence, he wriggled and he cheated the families of the deceased to clear his own name. He deserves to live with his reputation in tatters. Those of us that travelled around South Yorkshire supporting our side during those years know exactly what the police thought of us, and how they treated us with absolute disrespect.
However, Duckenfield wasn't responsible for the deaths of 95 people that day. He didn't commit manslaugher. He was one part of a culture from the government to Sheffield Wednesday, and through to some fans who all had a role. I cannot understand this case at all.
I get that the families want justice but justice came with clearing the deceased's names and apportioning responsibility appropriately. Justice is also in the new stadiums and new laws and new attirudes that eventually followed. Locking up a pathetic excuse for a police officer isn't justice.
