There's a lot of overly harsh posts here.
I thought England played pretty well. There was a problem down our left that never got solved. Baines isn't as good as Cole, it's just a fact. And Rooney isn't a left sided midfielder. That was tactically idiotic, especially when Italy's main pace came from their right back. That's a poor management error from RH, not the fault of the players selected.
Everywhere else I thought we played well, except for Hart who scares the shit out of me every time the ball goes into our area. Despite reservations, Wellbeck did a fine job for the team. Everyone else played well but we ran out of steam after about seventy minutes and were unlucky to be behind at that point so needed to chase the game. Italy put ten men behind the ball and we were knackered so it fizzled out. Overall, we could easily have won that game if the breaks had gone our way instead of theirs.
I do have to agree with the comments about Phil Neville. Feck me, what a total twat he is. He sounded like Phil Neal in that Graham Taylor documentary. If he said that there was still plenty of time once, he said it twenty times, including in the last minute. He offered no insight or expertise whatsoever.
