If we'd beaten Southampton we'd have been at Newcastle in the next round.

That would have been worth several hundred thousand in ticket revenue to the club - enough to pay for a new manager.

Do those people who said losing on Saturday was a good thing still stand by that?

And I have loads of geordie mates - would have been a cracking game! Never mind.

Its never good to lose, but in the bigger picture if it helps us to stop up because we avoided injuries and suspensions in a game that had no league points at stake ,then i'd say yes. The consequences of relegation is far more important than a 5th rd cup tie imo.

But what if the consequences of getting knocked out of the cup means we can't pay compensation for the manager we want - or we can't afford to take any loan signings?

i guess we will never know now. i would prefer we had won and used the money, particularly with loosing two players today (dublin and Wilcox) we could use some new faces in the squad.

could somebody please explain the mindset of those that did think that losing was good, and that we should concentrate on the league? as said before in the thread, losing is never good! also, if we were still in the cup, it would make us slightly more appealing for the potential managers.

I never said that losing was good, far from it. I just found it slightly amusing that Southampton got drawn against a team as far away from them as possible

Don't you think we are struggling enough in league as it is? If we had two players injured and say another picked up a suspension then we really are endangering our chances of survival. Yes we lost out on a pay day, but the ramifications of relegation will cost the club far more than 1 cup tie.

If the club was that worried about getting players injured or suspended in cup games they'd have put the reserve team out on Saturday.
