Home to blackpool,
Well done Hinckley
How important is football?
Well I reckon the heroes of Hinckley United earned more publicity for the town in this and their other recent FA Cup exploits than for any other reason in its history.
Indeed I reckon the only thing to compare in the area was Richard 111 getting his heroic but fatal clattering at Bosworth Field.
This wasn't a team of gallant hangers-on saved by a heroic goalkeeper or every side of the woodwork. Oh no, hese lads followed a game plan which took advantage of the conditions to leave spectators unable to decide which of the two protagonists was the Football League side.
It really would have been a disgrace if they'd gone down to the penalty that really never was (and which Salako justly missed) and, indeed, the referees spot kick donation apart, it was Hinckley who had marginally the better chances.
With Hinckley's name in the Third Round you know that dreams can come true so I'm standing by the phone waiting for my call from Julia Roberts.
Hinckley's Council has had years and years to give the town an identity and a name to be proud of without making any great impression that I can think of. Hinckley Town football club have done the job with thought, passion, belief, organisation and a football.
Well done lads. Good luck at Brentford. You've done the town proud whatever happens.
