Filip Benković has left Leicester City, after the Club and the player mutually agreed to cancel the remaining term of his contract.

Filip, 24, joined the Foxes from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2018 and went on to feature in the Club’s First Team and Development Squad ranks. His experience was also enriched by spells on loan with Celtic – whom he helped to a domestic treble in 2018/19 – Bristol City, Cardiff City and OH Leuven.

The Club would like to place on record its thanks to Filip for his professionalism and dedication during his time in Leicester – an experience we hope he can build on in during his future career. He begins the next chapter with the very best wishes of everyone at Leicester City.

There's been talk of him having a medical at Udinese. He'll be there by the end of the week, free of any tussle about payment for the rest of his contract period and/or transfer fee.

Watch him go somewhere and look incredible, and us become even more confused at what happened to him here.

Very strange situation with him really. Was he just shit? Seems unlikely. Always seemed odd that Brendan really rated him at Celtic and then never used him here. Yes there's a difference in quality but I can't believe Benkovic was so bad that he never got a look in purely on football reasons alone.

Strange that when Maguire left, we all assumed Benkovic would fill that gap. Instead he started that season injured, Soyuncu came in instead and did incredibly well. Now Benkovic has his contract terminated while Soyuncu is worth £30m+. Small margins maybe...

I think this is one of the oddest spells a player has ever had at our club. Goalkeepers like Jakupović sign knowing they’ll almost certainly never play. Goalies are a different species. Young defenders who cost £13 million or whatever it was can usually expect to progress to fairly frequent first team football within a season or so, but this lad didn’t seem to ever be anywhere near consideration. Not even when he first signed. Very, very strange and it can’t simply be a matter of him lacking the ability to play football. Is it a mental health thing? Homesickness? Hammondesque “ankle injury”?

At least we have plenty of centre backs to cover for him leaving.

Boooooooooooom….l..

Adrian Durham’s head just exploded

Best of luck to him where ever he goes next.

I believe he was registered in our squad so at least it frees up a space to bring someone in who may actually play for us.

And so another Leicester legend departs.

How will we ever forget that time he came off the bench for his debut against Fleetwood in the League Cup first round. He replaced some unknown called Morgan.

Then, I was there for his first start just 18 months later against Oldham in the FA Cup where he produced a masterclass of invisibility before limping off injured to be replaced some lad called Fuchs.

One key point about Benkovic is that we never conceded a goal when he was on the pitch. Surely that's £13m well spent. A combined 95 minutes of Benkonbauer-esque brilliance.

Oh how the two years since we last saw him have slipped away. Years of extraordinary nonsense spouted by BR about why he wasn't being picked. He was released when finally the excuses ran out.

Was he dogshit or was he made of glass? Was he a troubled soul or did his attitude stink? We'll probably never know.

Given they'll have spent about £15m of the clubs and fans money on him, would be kind of nice for them to say why we have never played him despite on occasion having to play a stuffed animal, a scarecrow and the Birch at centre half when he was allegedly available.

Frees up a space in the 25 man squad, so I guess we'll see Mendy in the second half of the season as things stand.
