Forum software update

A new version of the forum software has been released. I've bought a licence (with thanks to Blaarev and Feriol, whose contributions helped pay for it), but I'm unsure whether to install it yet.


It's a big upgrade and none of the add-ons I've installed will work if I install it.

We'd lose the ability to:
Select the number of posts/page
Ignore the swear filter
Ignore threads and subforums
Play games in the arcade

The add-on developers may release new versions of these but there's no guarantee.


The upgraded forum would give us:

An improved mobile site
Emoji support
Retina avatar and smilie support
Enhanced post editing
Alerts in the browser title bar
Improved media embedding
Faster thread creation


So I need to decide is whether it's worth upgrading now (and losing some features), or wait for a while until the add-ons we use become available.

Any opinions?

Can’t say I’m bothered about the ignoring of threads or playing games in the arcade.

But having to go through 40 pages of ramblings rather than 5, and not being able to see the odd shit or **** would be a travesty.

Shit isn't censored anyway. The word, that is. There's a lot of posts that are shit that probably should be censored...

I could turn off the censor completely. The only reason I have it enabled is in case the naughty words mean it gets blocked by company firewalls, etc.


I don't think the posts per page thing is as much of an issue as it used to be. Pages load so quickly that it's not much of an inconvenience to click to the next page.
