bocadillo

Water Gypsy
Problem:
I am boating from Sunday until Wednesday afternoon. I was due to be returning to east Kent by tube and train in the late afternoon/early evening. Clearly I will be in the right place for getting to the match - the problem is that I will have a bagful of boaty gear + a life-jacket with me and I don't think I will get them into the ground.

Does anybody, contributor or lurker, live near enough to Craven Cottage for me to be able to leave my stuff at their place before the game and for me to pick it up afterwards and get back to Victoria in time for my last train just after midnight?

Alternatively, is anybody driving down with an empty boot? If son can I meet up with you and leave my stuff in your boot? (Probably better to meet away from the final parking place so that nobody sees the stuff go into the boot).

Can anybody help? Please pm me if you can.

Crystal Palace may be a bit tight ace........It'll take at least an hour.

Thanks Alex. I think you're probably right - too far to go to be sure of getting back to Victoria in time.

Can't you leave them at Victoria?

Not sure whether they have Left Luggage there any more - certainly there are no lockers. The problem is that there is one bag, a small rucsack and a life-jacket - the modern privatised left luggage offices very strictly charge every item separately - it will finish up costing more than my match ticket.

But thanks for the suggestion.

edit: Left Luggage at Victoria closes at 23:00. I'd be buggered if it went to extra time.

Just leave them ouside a tube station. By the time you get back, the whole are will be clear and you can just walk past any police and military vehicles that may be present and collect your belongings with very little fuss.

In my youth when faced with a s8imilar situation, I used to take the stuff to a police-station and hand it in as found property. By the time the match had finished, the shifts would have changed and I just went back to the police station and said I had lost it.

When we played at Bramall Lane at the start if the season a couple of years ago just after the July bombings, I was again coming back from a boat. Nobody would let me leave my bags and they finished up in the back of a South Yorkshire police car for the duration of the match.

I've done that in Tokyo Central Sation. When arriving in Tokyo I used to travel down to Hiroshima for 1 night, and then up to Niigata the next day via the same station. I used to leave my case to avoid lugging it around and then collect it on my return journey. I always made sure I left my driving license in my case and passport in my pocket to match the two up together.

Still used to worry that I wouldn't get it back though
