I'm the latter so I don't think it has any bearing, it just means that because being gay is more or less accepted in the mainstream people are more confident in coming out.

If they weren't then the amount of gay people wouldn't decrease, just be alot more in the closet.

As for the list of bands, the common denominator on the 'safe' list is that they are all shite.
