Good laptop, no more than ?500

A family member is lookig to buy a lap-top and wanted me to help them pick one, as I have no experience buying lap-tops I wondered if anyone could recommend a good model and place to buy from.



They have been recommended a ACER AS9301AWS, I have checked
customer reviews for this and all seem to be poor.


Also where is the best place to buy from, I noticed PC World getting slagged off quite a lot.

whats it to be used for?

at £500 there will have to be sacrifices in the spec. you won't get a particularly good on for games anyway.

but you might be better to sacrifice processor and HD space in favour of memory if its typical office use?

Well it's for my girlfriends parents so I don't think games will be the main thing.

They really just want if for good Internet usage and such.

and i'v never had a problem with PC World personally. i'v had a couple of Advent Laptops, if you get the offers they can be quite reasonable.

If you want to avoid PC World go for at least 1GB of Ram. for net, processor isn't a big factor, HD might be important if they want to start keeping photos or something on it. the 80GB on on the above system should be sufficient.
