But am I alone in thinkinkng we didnt play that well. Coventry never even tried in the first half.
Dont want to cast a cloud over CL's first home game, but they looked only slightly better than MA's team in my opinion.
Maybe I expected too much, and after all Im f***ing delighted with 3-0 and 3 points.
I wil lreserve my true judgement until later in the season!
But I do think we need to make changes.

agree. but 3 points is what matters. 8)

We've managed to lose or draw against plenty of poor teams this season. Perhaps the big thing for me was the team remained generally composed in the last 20 minutes at last.

Yes, I saw some cautious play in the second half but it was cautious while remaining positive. The hit and hope theory has been thrown out already and we continued to press the ball even when the game was assuredly won in the last 10 minutes.

Local derbies aren't noted for their fancy football but City scored with a good proportion of their strikes and played for each other.

It's a decent foundation to build on and with people like Gillespie and Morris making a mark the squad looks a bit stronger already.

Of course there will be changes in the future. I just feel much more confident that any change Levein makes, either with the side or with incoming personnel, will not be flipppant but will have a definite purpose.

If he replaces someone, I'm sure it will be with someone who is categorically better.

For the first time this season I'm actually excited because at last I believe we've got a manager who can think.

I've watched quite a lot of Championship Football on Sky etc this season.Tonight we may not have looked world beaters but we were better than the majority of teams I've seen....there is no unbeatable side in this League.Wigan lose one striker with injury and what happens they lose 2-0 at home and hardly muster a shot on goal,Ipswich are fine going forwards but have a very 'shaky' defence.

I cant see an justification in complaints. I have not seen city pass like they did today for years. everything was quick, yet simple and very few and I mean a few, passes did not actually reached another city player. I dont know what it looked like on TV. but IMO it was brill.

The players where confident, calm, no running around like headless chickens. They all seamed to know what there job was and stuck to it and kept their shape.

The defended on the half way line and every player fought to get the ball back, when we lost it.

Steward did an excelent job teaming up Taitto, Who was rock solid, Canero and Gillespie worked hard all match and I actually wanted Gillespie to stay on.

Heath made no silly mistakes and for once dabisas looked like he cared about the outcome.

The Pieman was sound,

The only two minor critasisms, I would have was for connely, who did not play up to the standard I expected. but he worked hard so he is excused.
and gudjonsson, who after getting away with an early foul, was battered by the cov players and spent a lot of time laying on the ground, trying to get free kicks. But just like connely he worked hard, so I aint complaining.

A mate watched it on telly and he did not feel we played that well, but let me assure anyone who was not there. City controled the game and the reason cov looked like they did not care, was because they had no answer to cities game, city made them look crap.

I aint saying every thing is cured at city but anyone who has suffered the football we have this season will agree that the improvment is enormous, and I for one never expected such a turn round in such a short time.

Christ lads, we just beat someone 3:0 and they never even looked threatning.

Be +ve

lads i just got back. we did themand craig seems like he wil make the team work. long live craig and long live leicester

But I do think we need to make changes.

Let's be fair! He has the same players that MA landed the club with - but there are very, very encouraging signs that he is capable of getting more out of them.

Just a pity that the clear out of the shell shocked MA and the ludicrous Bassett didn't happen in the summer. But things are looking up.

As a constant sniper at the board over the last few months -I say: well done -you have taken a chance and brought in what looks like being a fresh and real talent.

Absolutley delighted. for those who feel the performance wasnt great, try an imagine thats the same squad of players that we have played with all season yet they look a completley different team! no more endless, aimless hoofs in the general direction of Scowcroft, actual build up play!, actual passing to feet!, urgency in passing and attacking!, interplay between midfield and attack!, interplay between full backs and wingers!, closing down opposition! etc etc.

Well done Craig Levein, I look forward to seeing the side in a few months when youve really got your teeth in to the players.

Can anyone honestly say we would have seen a performance like that this season under Micky Adams????

Yep also delighted, was quite surprised at the lack of optimism on the board after the game. OK Cov were pants but weve played teams as bad as that under MA or DB and managed to lose or draw.

The passing was excellent, no more long balls out to the right for Scowy to win the header and it bounce to no-one, real passing ON THE FLOOR
!!!

Another main difference was the attitude when the goal went in, we carried on playing rather than set up camp on our six yard box like we did against sheff utd.

Levein after the game said there were still improvements to come, so i say roll on Saturday!

Agree with a few people here,

The Championship is not like the Premier, most teams here make mistakes, but dont always get punished in this league. I've watched quite abit of Champ football & I really don't think the standard of football here is that great, but these teams make it hard for you to beat them.

I thought our passing at times was great. We had a lovely little spell were we was passing the ball about. Our final ball still has alot to be worked on but we are whipping those balls in now. I thought we controlled the midfield, Tiatto & Nalis ran their socks off not forgetting Gillespie trying it on.

To me even a performance like last night would trouble alot of these Championship teams. I wouldnt expect us to loose to Brighton Watford or QPR playing like this.

Best I've seen in a while.

haven't seen us pass the ball like since MON left, still need a good right winger, and morris seemed to be fitting into it well, could do with a left winger as well, because IMO tiatto would be better in the center with nalis!

Not saying we can't ever improve the position but on this evidence we've got a good right winger. For the first 60 minutes he was constantly involved and asking questions.

Played a big part in two of the three goals. He tired a bit and Levein picked just the right time to replace him. Remember, he hasn't been involved much until the new boss's arrival and I for one have always been appalled that City management have never been able to inspire him.

Another point, touched on elsewhere in the thread, is that people at fizzy level will always make mistakes, will always have shortcomings probably more pronounced than their Premiership counterparts.

In Gillespie's case, being a forward, it's not so much what he does wrong as the effect he has with what he does right. Two assists is pretty effective. And, on this form with probably more to come as he gains match fitness and confidence, he looked as good as any other team's right winger - and better than most.

I wanted him to be taken off, not because I thought he was poor (quite the opposite infact), so when he did go off the crowd could get behind him and cheer him, give him more confidence for the next game.

Is it my imagination or did the whole team look happier against Coventry and Crewe than they have so far this season.

I can't remember them easing off for a minute. In normal outfield play I can never remember Pieman being smothered for space by funnelling back defenders.

In midfield and attack no-one was left isolated without support.
I never felt the slightest disquiet in the last 20 minutes (and we've been three-up before) because City never willingly surrendered an inch and never changed their policy of smothering Coventry attacks at source whenever possible.

No-one looked disinterested, frustrated or undisciplined with the minor (and I mean minor exception) of Joey who got side-tracked because of an early misdemeanor and who I am sure will be made aware of the fact by his manager and will back to his considerable best promptly.

This was real team football. The crowd were great and can help still more in future by lifting the confidence of people like Gillespie, Morris and Stewart before and during the game. Belief is a big thing in football, expecially with ball players. No use them being more afraid of their own crowd than the opposition.

All of em seem to be working hard now. So let's encourage them and make em love the club as much as we do.

Last night was great, the team played far better than we had a right to expect, after Day 8 or whatever it was of the Levein era. We played with speed, determination, an ability to pass and move, we created tons of chances and won comforably in the end. Yes Cov were poor but we looked far, far better than we have for a long time.

Some particular bright spots:

Gillespie - transformed from recent; great to see/hear him get such a postive response from the crowd as he went off, which he clearly appreciated
Joey - played well. Dont think he's started any other game this season ?? and I thought he passed / chased really well last night
Nalis - one or two slack passes but ,,, he chased up and tackled back when possession was lost
Tiatto - probably MOM, above his usual (good) standard, and one of the key players last night

A great start, I went home very happy and looking forward to the next / future games very much - won't all be easy but there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic
