Gregory tipped for City return

by Tim Murray

Former Leicester City first-team coach John Gregory is being strongly backed to return as the club's next manager.

And Blackpool boss Simon Grayson's price has also been trimmed after the Seasiders revealed they would not stand in the way of him leaving the club.

Gregory, who has managed Aston Villa, Wycombe, Derby and Queen's Park Rangers since his spell at City under Brian Little in the '90s, was 16-1 with Leicester bookmakers Mark Jarvis when betting opened this week.

But he has been backed into 3-1 third-favourite behind Billy Davies and Grayson.

It is a similar story with Victor Chandler, who have trimmed the former England midfielder's odds from 20-1 to 4-1.

Jarvis spokesman Scott Upton said: "We have some heavy liabilities over Gregory. About 75 per cent of the business in the last 24 hours has been for him.''

Chandler's Dave Jenkins said: "We had a flurry of bets for John Gregory on Wednesday evening and they appear to be from some very informed sources.

"We had him in at 20-1 but quickly cut that to 12-1. That price was also taken and we cut him to 9-1 before we decided to suspend the market.

I have no real problem with John Gregory apart from him being a bitter whinging bastard.

Wouldn't be very happy with John Gregory but would still support him.

eeerrr... they cut him to 9/2 yesterday. That still doesn't make him favourite and they have not suspended the market.

I'm sure that a bookie wouldn't tell a few porkies to get people to lose more cash :icon_lol:

Gregorys agent always whores him around as favourite for any job that comes up - just praying that this is all agent inflated hype.

A lot of this is reminiscent of MM's previous manager searches and the names linked to us. Some ridiculously big names to suggest our ambition and some ridiculously poor ones so we're all relieved when someone in the middle range joins.

This is the first job i've heard him linked with for ages.

I will just be relieved when *anybody* is appointed. Once again we are fiddling about whilst other clubs are naming their new managers and starting to enlist their squads. Once again we are going to be left with whatever is left over when everybody else has had their fill.

What a way to run a football club!

his daughter was at Leicester Grammar when i was...

I'm ready for the flack, but I don't think he'd be that bad ...

A mate of mine went on a stag do last week and Grayson, Taggart, Steve Thompson and Colin Gibson were there. Apparently Grayson would jump at the chance to manage City if asked and would have Tommo and Tags with him. Gibbo will be Filbert Fox.
